Former Offaly goalkeeper Stephen Byrne has been appointed manager of the county's under 21 hurling team. The Kilcormac/Killoughey clubman, who won an All-Ireland medal and All-Star award in 1998, takes over the reins from another former player, Padraig Horan, who guided the Faithful County to Leinster final appearances in 2007 and 2008. They lost the 2007 final to Dublin, and last year's decider to Kilkenny in Tullamore. Byrne's selectors will be St. Rynagh's Paudge Mulhare and Johnny Cleary of Birr. Meanwhile, former Tipperary goalkeeper and manager Ken Hogan has been named as the new Coolderry manager. Outside of Birr, Coolderry were the last team to win the Offaly SHC and with the likes of Kevin and Joe Brady, Cathal Parlon and Brian Carroll in their ranks, will have high hopes of regaining the Sean Robbins Cup this year.
