FESTIVE FOOTBALL CHALLENGE There was a very good turnout in Geashill on St Stephens Day for what is hoped to be an annual festive football challenge between 2 Raheen selections ("Reds" and "Oranges"). The game which was played in ideal weather conditions saw a number of veterans including Owenie Connor, P J Corcoran, Eddie Kaye and Pauric Pierce roll back the years to line up and showed that they had lost none of their skill and could still have something to offer. The game which was highly entertaining and full of intensity saw the "Oranges" claim the bragging rights on a scoreline of 4-10 to 3-11. At halftime the sides were level 0-08 to 1-05 with the goal for the "Oranges" coming in the 10th minute from Mark Byrne. The first 10 minutes of the second half saw the sides exchange a goal apiece with the "Reds" score from Eddie Kaye while the score for the "Oranges" from David Crombie. The next 5 minutes saw the "Reds" appear to take control of the game by scoring 2-02 without reply, the first goal again from Eddie Kaye while the second saw Owenie Connor finally rewarded after being denied a number of earlier opportunities. Over the next 10 minutes the "Oranges" clawed their way back into the game by hitting 1-04 replied to by a single point for the "Reds", the goal for the "Oranges" from a penalty which was won and scored by David Crombie. As the game approached the 30th minute the "Reds" were holding a 2 point lead but then Padraig Bracken turned it round when he rifled a shot to the net for the 4th goal for the "Oranges" to give them a 1 point lead. In the 7 minutes of injury time which followed the "Reds" had a number of chances but could not get an equaliser at the end of which the win was sealed with a point for the "Oranges" from Mark Gorman.
