Bohan expects young Dubs to get another chance

January 05, 2009
Stand-in Dublin manager Mick Bohan believes many of the experimental side which accounted for Offaly in their O'Byrne Cup opener will be given the opportunity to impress again against Wicklow next Sunday. With the Dublin squad and their manager Pat Gilroy not due to return from their training camp in La Manga until Saturday, there is every chance the same players could be on duty again against Mick O'Dwyer's Wicklow at Parnell Park next Sunday. "Oh, there is an opportunity, absolutely," Bohan said. "Realistically, if you play good football, the door can't be shut on you. "The game was videoed. They (management) want feedback on who performed today, and there was definitely four or five of them who would have stood out. To put a team together during the week and to come away with that was fantastic. "A lot of those lads have played minor, under 21 or senior for Dublin at some stage. Unfortunately, in Dublin at times, there's a lot of lads around the same level ... every one of those lads probably would have a pretension to be on the throne as well," he added. New Offaly boss Richie Connor expressed disappointment with their performance against a Dublin selection that was "probably their third string" and yet "looked like a team that was playing together for a long time." Like all new managers, Connor's preparation has been hampered by the closed season moratorium. "It was terribly frustrating," he explained. "Effectively Offaly haven't met as a team since last July - so burnout wasn't really a problem."
