Tullamore regain minor title

December 12, 2008
Tullamore 0-11 Edenderry 0-4 Tullamore defender their Offaly Minor 'A' Championship title in style last Saturday when they took Edenderry for seven points at Walsh Island. Led by their inspirational marksman Brian Hogan, the champions emerged into a three-point lead at half-time and never looked back. It was Hogan that shot them into the lead with an early free in the opening stages, before Stuart Cullen doubled the advantage. Ciaran Hurley got Edenderry off the mark, and singles from Mark Young and Derek Kelly gave them the lead, but Tullamore's strong forward play saw Hogan punish them with frees, and it was the would-be winners that went in with a 0-6 to 0-3 lead to boast. In the second-half Tullamore prospered with Hogan, Paul McNiff and Thomas Fleming all coming to the forefront, while Edenderry could only muster a single point through Stephen Guing 10 minutes into the resumption. Coming towards the closing stages, Tullamore were safe in the knowledge that they had successfully defended their title and a superb point from substitute Declan Hogan was the icing on the cake for them.
