Former Galway panellist Martin Dolphin’s hopes of lining out for Offaly have been ended by a change in the rules.

The Portumna clubman had been included in the squad for the year ahead, but the county board were informed that he was not eligible to line out for the Faithful County.

Dolphin’s mother hails from Clara, which in many cases is enough for a player to get an inter-county transfer.

However, a change in the rules last year means that situation does not apply to counties participating in the Liam MacCarthy, Joe McDonagh or Christy Ring Cups, even though it still applies in football as well as the Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Cups.

Having been informed of the ruling, Dolphin has now left the panel. The rule was only changed in the last 12 months.
