Offaly manager Kevin Martin is adamant that his side will play 'positive hurling'.

The Faithful County went down fighting against Galway in the opening round of the Leinster SHC round robin phase last weekend.

Many wondered why the home side didn't adopt a sweeper system against the marauding Galway forwards, but Martin wouldn't entertain the idea.

Instead, the Tullamore clubman told the Midland Tribune that they are going to play a decent brand of hurling and build from there.

This weekend, Offaly take on Kilkenny at Nowlan Park, but Martin will go 15 against 15 and hope they can learn from the game.

"People might say you could have put a sweeper at the back and maybe cut out Galway forwards cutting through, but what's the point in sitting back and let them come at you either?," said Martin.

"I'm a positive man and I want positive hurling and players to be positive, to push forward if they can. Then get back when they have to be back. Because you have to enjoy the game as well, and you don't enjoy the game if you're sitting back just waiting for an onslaught."
