Monaghan Fixtures

October 25, 2016

FIXTURES.

There is just one club fixture in the County this coming weekend, the final of the Junior football league, Cup section, between Sean McDermotts and Toome, which takes place in Gavan Duffy Park, Monaghan, on Sunday at 2:30 PM. The other action involving Monaghan clubs sees the County Junior champions, Blackhill taking on the Armagh Junior champions Clonmore in the quarter-final of the Ulster club Junior football championship, that game in Clones on Sunday at2:30 PM while the Monaghan intermediate champions Donaghmoyne, travel to Park Esler, Newry, to take on the Down intermediate champions Bredagh, with that game starting at 12:45 PM, as it is part of a double bill along with the meeting of the Down senior champions, Kilcoo and the Donegal champions, Glenswilly.

SEAN MC DERMOTTS V TOOME.

The only pity with the timing of this fixture is that it clashes directly with Blackhill's game in the Ulster club Junior championship in Clones but that will not affect the concentration or commitment and determination of either Sean McDermotts or Toome whose minds will be firmly fixed on victory and thereby promotion to intermediate ranks for next season, along with Blackhill. Sean McDermotts contested the final of the Junior football championship back on October 9th when they lost out to Blackhill by 8 points and their determination to erase that bitter disappointment will be a key factor in their approach on Sunday. Toome themselves reached the semi-final of the Junior football championship and came very close to denying Blackhill a place in the final for the 4th year in a row with just 2 points separating the sides after extra time in Inniskeen back on September 30th so they too will have huge motivation. A factor in Sean McDermotts defeat in the Junior championship final was the sending off of Pat Kieran as their attack lacked focus in his absence and he will be a crucial player in their game plan for Sunday along with the likes of Adam O'Driscoll and Damien Larkin. Sean McDermotts and Toome did not meet in the Junior football championship but it is fairly even from their league meetings with Sean McDermotts winning in Toome back in April by 10 points but Toome reversing that result back in August when they had a 2 points victory. It promises to be a keenly contested affair between 2 evenly matched sides and should prove a fitting finale to the Junior football league.

AIB ULSTER CLUB FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

With the County senior champions, Scotstown, out of contention in the senior provincial series it is now down to Blackhill, Junior and Donaghmoyne, intermediate, to fly the Monaghan Flag in Ulster. Both are in action this Sunday, Blackhill taking on the Armagh champions, Clonmore, in Clones at 2:30 PM while Donaghmoyne are in Newry where they  meet the Down champions Bredagh, that one at 12.45pm.
