Monaghan minor hurlers hit out at unfair treatment

The Monaghan minor hurlers have vented their anger with the county board after being asked to return their jerseys at the end of this year's campaign.

In a letter to Monaghan chairman Padraig Sherry, the young Farney hurlers say they have been unfairly treated by the board and claim that their football counterparts were given extra training gear and were allowed to keep their jerseys.

"Unlike the minor footballers we were given less training gear (two items compared to their six) and told to return our county jerseys after our final competition. To us it seems unfair that one minor team should be looked on more favourably than another," the letter reads.

"We feel it is only fair that we get to keep the jerseys as a just reward for our year's (sic) work on the pitch and to say that other teams started earlier or trained more is unjust considering that we started training on the official commencement date.

"We are appreciative of everything that the county board does provide for us, but on this occasion we believe that an error has been made and we hope that you seriously reconsider this matter."
