Clontibret Camogie News

October 06, 2015

Congratulations to the 10 underage players who participated in the Monaghan Blitz on Saturday last in Clontibret. This was a very well attended blitz with almost 40 participants from Clontibret, Castleblayney, and Inniskeen. Initially the younger girls played small-sided games and the older girls played a 20 minute aside 12-aside match. Well done to all involved in organising and helping, along with Marie, and to Clontibret GAA club for use of their facilities. Castleblayney will host the final one of these Blitzes in a few weeks time. So keep up the training girls!
Congratulations to Clontibret hurling club who are one of the lucky winners of a 'Centra Dream Day to Croke Park' on Monday Oct 19th. The participating children will receive coaching, on the actual pitch in Croke Park (!), by well-known inter-county hurlers, from 10.30 to 12.00. They then will have opportunity to meet and get autographs and photos taken with their sporting heroes! After this they will be treated to a lunch buffet in the Cusack Suite. This will be followed by a dizzying array of activities - for U-8's there will be Giant Games, for O-8's, a Bungee Run. The children will then have a behind-the-scenes Stadium tour, focusing on the history and culture of Gaelic games as well as the historical significance of the stadium itself. Finally the children will visit the Museum whi ch houses the artefacts that relate to the story of the GAA and they will also have the opportunity to test their skills in the interactive games area of the museum. What a breath-taking prize!!! Well done Teresa + Co. The good news is that there are a small number of places available for some of our underage camogie players. These, I imagine, will be carefully chosen and I suspect attendance at training, attitude and participation in training, attendance and participation in the Monaghan, Monaghan GAA and Armagh Blitzes, participation on the Monaghan County U-14 panel etc. will all form part of the criterion. Perhaps the list is even longer! However parents will be informed in due course when the lucky players have been chosen!
On Saturday last Monaghan were represented in a County U-15 Blitz in Trim Co Meath. With a very limited panel, made up predominately of Castleblayney players, the team struggled against all their opponents - Wicklow, Donegal and Roscommon. However, great credit is due to the girls who put their heart and souls into the matches, none more so than our own two (yes, only two!) representatives, Amy Gorman and Siobhan Kelly. Amy gave some outstanding displays and proved herself a 'thorn in the side' of her opponents, no matter whether she was an attacker or defender. Despite being the youngest on the team, Siobhan battled gamely in every match trying to make as much use of the scraps of possession that came Monaghan's way, in attack. Monaghan also benefitted from the help Cliodhna Moran gave on the side -line. Cliodhna had been chosen for the team, but picked up a wrist injury in school during the previous week. Nonetheless she travelled with the team and was invaluable helping with water, first-aid etc. Many, many thanks Cliodhna for unselfishly giving up your Saturday afternoon to help. Thanks also to Francis Haughey and Teresa Lam who did a lot of the 'heavy lifting' over the course of the afternoon. I could get used to all this assistance!
