Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke believes that no matter which of the sides they face in the Ulster final; his charges must improve on their semi-final appearance.

O'Rourke will know who they will face on Saturday evening (barring a draw) as Donegal and Derry go head to head in the second semi-final.

Last Sunday, Monaghan saw off the challenge of a dogged Fermanagh side who were reduced to 14 men in the second half and O'Rourke admitted to the Northern Standard that performance would not be good enough against either Derry or Donegal.

"I saw Donegal against Armagh and they put in a tremendous performance on that occasion," said O'Rourke. "Derry though are there on merit and coming in quietly under the radar almost, so we will just have to sit back and get as much out of the game and learn as much as we possibly can and see who comes through and then prepare as well as we can.

"Irrespective of who comes through it is going to be a big occasion and a big ask for us because we know we have to improve big time on certain aspects of our play because there are a lot of aspects of our game that would not be up to the level required when you are playing with an Ulster title at stake and that is what we will endeavour to do over the next few weeks."
