Eurotech Junior Football League

Our senior team played Killanny last Friday 17th April, in the Eurotech Junior Football League and secured the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 1-13 Killanny 0-8. As it turned out this was a highly enjoyable match played at Pairc Naomh Mhuire in dry and beautiful sunny conditions. In an open and exciting game of football there was some excellent scores taken on both sides and we played with the elements during the opening half and overall we observed a much improved performance from the lads in terms of approach and execution and we moved the ball quickly and accurately to build up a healthy 0-8 to 0-2 advantage at the interval. Our movement and commitment during the second half remained strong but some handling errors at crucial times and misplaced passes allowed Killanny back into the game and with five minutes remaining the scoreboard showed 0-11 to 0-8. However, the lads dug in and showed tremendous battling qualities and gradually regained the upper hand and notched up some impressive scores towards the closing stages to emerge with the spoils on a final score-line Rockcorry 1-13 Killanny 0-8.

Gerry's Prepared Veg Ballybay - Under 12
Last Saturday 18th April, I watched, with great interest, a highly entertaining game of football in the Gerry's Prepared Veg Spring League where our under 12 footballers entertained St. Patricks Sarsfields at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. The contest was packed full of action and was played at a fast-pace with both sets of players competing with every ounce of energy and willpower. Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong side of the score-line but there was no winner & loser because the real winner was the privilege to watch a thrilling and pulsating encounter where ALL kids displayed tremendous skill, talent and pride in wearing their respective club jersey's and to me that signifies the true essence and beauty of our wonderful game. Conditions were absolutely perfect for the match with a nice dry & smooth playing surface, no wind or rain (for a change) and there was glorious sunshine. Both teams started well and during the opening exchanges they were evenly matched and traded some top quality scores and at the end of an exciting first half there was nothing between the sides with each side on 0-5 apiece. When play resumed both teams were cheered on by a large vocal support and the kids gave a super display and played some delightful football. St. Patricks Sarsfields enjoyed a mini purple patch and opened up a five point advantage and while we did enjoy numerous bright spells we were unlucky not to have scored more but despite our best efforts we sadly never seriously looked like overturning a quality St. Patricks Sarsfields outfit and the game finished Rockcorry 0-7 St. Patricks Sarsfields 0-10.
Spring League Finals Day
The next outing for the under 12 footballers will be on Saturday 2nd May when they travel to the Monaghan GAA Training Grounds located at Cloghan, Annyalla to take part in the Spring League Finals Day. The time and opposition has yet to be confirmed but the emphasis on the day is FUN and RESPECT and I would encourage as many parents and families to go and support the youngsters on this fun day. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the team mentors and all the players the very best of luck in their final.
Gerry's Prepared Veg Ballybay - Under 14
With a game cancelled due to bad weather and another one postponed due to a bereavement the under 14 footballers eventually got their season underway when they made the short journey to  last Sunday morning( 19th April) to play Latton in the Gerry's Prepared Veg Division 5 League competition. On a lovely sunny morning we started brightly and set a strong early pace taking the game to their opponents and two quick goals from gave us an early lead. As the game developed Latton weathered the storm and they gradually found their rhythm and notched up some impressive scores to leave it all square midway through the first period with 2-3 apiece.  A local derby is always hotly contested and both teams were playing some excellent football with some nice skills being displayed by both sets of players. We upped our performance and took control of the remainder of the half and added a further 2-2 to leave the score at the interval Latton 2-7 Rockcorry 4-5. When play resumed it continued at a frantic pace and while Latton did enjoy their fair share of possession they were finding it difficult to break down our defence and find scores.   Our lads, on the other hand, looked lively and showed great determination and notched over some breath-taking scores to secure the victory on a final score-line Latton 2-8 Rockcorry 5-15. This Saturday 25th April they are back in action when they travel to play Carrickmacross and the game has a throw-in time of 12 noon. The previously postponed match against Inniskeen has now been fixed for Sunday 3rd May at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 12 noon.
Gerry's Prepared Veg Ballybay - Under 16
Hard luck to our under 16 footballers who sadly suffered another heavy defeat when they travelled to play Toome last Thursday 16th April, in the Gerry's Prepared Veg Division 4 League competition. With two games into the league campaign I have quickly noticed a pattern emerging. In terms of our efforts particularly during the opening period our performances have been well below par, we lacked desire and generally things just didn't go our way. On the other hand, when you evaluate our second half performances the lads have sparked into life and their efforts have increased enormously and they are well able to match their opponents! I would just like to say, you need to start believing in yourself lads and your abilities and be confident. Please understand that if you give your best and leave your best on the playing field that's all anyone can ask from you. You have the talent and I know it's difficult but it's important you maintain a positive attitude and I firmly believe that if you can get consistency in your performances then hopefully the results will start to come your way. Keep it going lads and keep those heads held high. They are back in action tonight, Thursday 23rd April, when they host Tyholland at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and the game has a throw-in time of 6.45pm. On Thursday 30th April they play Scotstown at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7pm.
McElvaney Recycling Minor League Division 3On Tuesday 31st March the minor team will get their first taste of action when they entertain neighbours Latton in the McElvaney Recycling Minor Football League Division 3. The game is fixed for Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 6.30pm.
It was abundantly clear after the first five minutes or so that it was going to be another tough day at the office for our minor footballers when they played Killanny last Tuesday 14th April in the McElvaney Recycling Minor Football League Division 3. The travelling side made a positive and dominant start which gave them confidence and while our lads tried hard throughout the match and cannot be faulted for their efforts they were up against a sturdier Killanny outfit and as a result we found the going difficult as a physically stronger Killanny side dominated in most areas from start to finish and never looked in any real danger. In fairness, I have to give credit to the team because they upped their determination levels during the second half and put in a mighty performance and kept pace with their opponents but as hard as they tried to close the huge gap they came up short and Killanny cruised to a comfortable victory on a final scoreline Rockcorry 1-5 Killanny 7-20. The previously postponed match against Latton has been refixed for this Saturday 25th April at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 6.00pm. They will be back in action on Tuesday 28th April when they host Emerald Sarsfields at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm.
Darkness Into Light Walk
The Pieta House Darkness into Light Walk will be held in Monaghan town on Saturday 9th May at 4.15am starting from Monaghan Harps GAA complex, Rooskey, Monaghan. Pieta House are well acknowledged for their work with suicide awareness and all clubs within County Monaghan are advised to get behind this initiative and unite to raise awareness about positive mental health and suicide.  They hope to build on the massive success of last year and it would be great if a big turnout from the club / village could join the walk in solidarity to support Pieta House. Hopefully, the weather will remain nice and dry and weather you choose to walk, run or jog the choice is yours but please remember to dress warmly and arrive early and be prepared to have a wonderful morning.
