Rackard Cup: Rossies ease past 13-man Monaghan
May 20, 2012
Roscommon are safely through to the semi-finals of the Nicky Rackard Cup after they overcame 13-man Monaghan by 2-19 to 1-11 at Athleague.
The visitors, who had threatened to withdraw from the competition last month, got off to a flying start when Brian McGuigan goaled after just two minutes. But the Rossies hit back with a goal from Cillian Egan and went on to lead 1-9 to 1-6 at the break.
The second half proved to be a one-sided affair with Roscommon never looking in any danger after John Coyne swooped for their second goal two minutes after the restart following good work by Egan and Shane McDermott.
Frustration got the better of the Farney County in the closing 10 minutes when they had both Trevor Hilliard and Mark Treanor dismissed.
