Monaghan hurlers' getting ready for championship

Monaghan are going to take part in the Nicky Rackard Cup.

The border county this week began preparations for the third-tier championship under the watchful eye of new temporary manager Morgan Lawlor.

Former Kildare boss Lawlor has taken charge in an interim capacity and will run the line when Monaghan enter the Rackard Cup on Sunday, May 12th.

Earlier this year, Monaghan hit the headlines when they withdrew from the Division Three final against Fingal, backing then manager Mattie Lennon in a row over intermediate football fixtures that had been scheduled four days before the decider.

When Lennon walked and no resolution was found, the players refused to play that final under a different manager but are prepared to kick on in the championship.
