DRUMHOWAN APPEAL RE QUIZ FINAL SUCCEEDS BUT NO RE-INSTATEMENT.
At the recent Ulster final of Scor na nOg which was held in Galbally, County Tyrone on Saturday January 14th there was an inconclusive outcome to the Quiz on the night although Tyrone were declared winners. The upshot was that Drumhowan lodged an objection against the result because they had not been allocated the four marks they had earned for one correct answer which, had they been allocated, would have meant that the contest would have gone to a tie-breaker. The outcome of their objection which was held on Friday evening last was equally disappointing for Drumhowan because even though they won their objection they still lost out overall due to the fact that Tyrone had also lodged an objection relating to another aspect of how the quiz was conducted claiming that they should have been allocated a further two points on the night. Tyrone also won their objection which meant that even with Drumhowan succeeding with their's the tally still finished with Tyrone two marks ahead. It was something of a surreal atmosphere at the hearings as the Scor delegates from Cavan, Armagh, Tyrone, Monaghan and Antrim could not sit in on the hearing due to their involvement so the decision was taken by the delegates from Donegal, Derry and Down along with the chairman and secretary of the Ulster Scor committee which was deemed to form the necessary quorum. All concerned in Scor in Monaghan were very disappointed not only at the outcome but at how the matter was handled and particularly at the fact that objections etc should not be happening in Scor na nOg as it can be damaging to the image of that part of the GAA's activities due to the fact that the participants are so young.
