UGAAWA MERIT AWARD WINNER HAS MONAGHAN CONNECTIONS

The winner of the Ulster GAA Writers Monthly Merit Award for December 2011 Brian Coyle is a member of the St Paul's club in Belfast but his background is firmly rooted in Monaghan as his late father hailed from Latton and he still has extensive family connections there. 30 years ago Brian was the instigator of the now very prestigious St Paul's Ulster minor champions tournament and it was for establishing a similar competition for ladies county minor club champions that he was nominated for the December award. Brian along with his daughter Donna organised and completed the inaugural ladies Ulster minor club champions tournament during December and given the response this year it promises to be just as successful as the boys' minor tournament is.
The presentation to Brian was made at a reception in Quinn's Corner, Ballygawley, by Quinn Insurance Sales Manager Gráinne Kiernan. As the winner he receives an engraved Belleek Living vase, specially designed silver cuff links by Omeath jeweller Garrett Mallon, training gear from O'Neill's International Sports and an UGAAWA Sports Voucher. He will also receive two tickets and overnight accommodation for the UGAAWA Silver Jubilee banquet in November. (Pic to follow).
