Providing the spark

December 30, 2010
Celebrating 20 years in business in 2010, Electro-Mech Construction Ltd in Castleblayney has defied the odds in providing fast and efficient solutions to their customer's electrical requirements. Company Co-Director Sean McShane spoke to Monaghan's Match about what they have to offer and their recent sponsorship of the county's GAA development squad.

While Gaelic games continues to thrive in Monaghan across all grades and codes, the entire scene wouldn't be so grand and prosperous without the people who work to make it what it is and those in the position to back it financially to ensure its facilitated so the interest remains. This is where Sean McShane and his son Niall come in, as a small piece of a much bigger puzzle.
Since 1990, Sean has worked with Electro-Mech Construction Ltd and now the Castleblayney Company has provided substantial sponsorship towards the Monaghan football development squad in the past year. Niall, meanwhile, has been helping out on the field for the last three years, lining-out in goals for the development squad before being called into the county minor set-up this past season.
While Sean himself has a GAA background in hurling with his native Castleblayney Faughs, who have a rich history in the small ball game in the Farney County, it's something he doesn't dwell on too much.
Instead, his focus is on the present with his family and his company to the forefront as priority, especially in these harsh economic times.
"The company is called Electro-Mech Construction Ltd and we're based here on the Monaghan Road just outside Castleblayney town," Sean explained.
"We were founded in 1990 and set-up originally as a contracting company and panel builders. We have 15 full-time working here and a man by the name of Joe Mc Connon and myself are the two directors."
While its origins date back to the 1970s when Tony Carville, who Sean believes had a stint as Monaghan senior football manager some time ago, was Managing Director, Electro-Mech Construction Ltd, as it's known today, was founded in 1990 and is a member of The Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland, along with the National Electrical Contractors of Ireland and the Construction Industry Federation.
The company operates from a 6000 square foot workshop, with stores and offices situated at Monaghan Road, Castleblayney. Sean stressed that Electro Mech are very much a customer focused company which provide fast and efficient solutions to their customer's electrical requirements.
Electro-Mech Construction Ltd are mainly involved in the provision of industrial and commercial electrical services, electrical equipment supply and in design and manufacture of switchgear, distribution boards and control panels. They will also provide a breakdown and maintenance service which includes out of hours call-out for their customers.
Sean explained that he and his employees also pride themselves in producing quality work and solutions at a reasonable cost to their customers by using the most up to date technology and their vast knowledge in the electrical industry gained through 20 years experience in the field.
The company operates to a strict health and safety regime and has an excellent safety record to date. All Electro-Mech Construction Ltd employees are trained to the highest standards, according to Sean, and safe work practices and they comply with all current HSA legislation. He explained that the Castleblayney business has full public, employee and product insurance.
Knowledge and expertise is hard to beat in any field and Electro-Mech Construction Ltd have gained a wide experience over the years through working with our various customers in all types of industry, working to high specifications and testing regimes including validation of systems in the pharmaceutical sector.
The company's website adds: "We are engaged in general electrical installation works in all types of industrial, commercial, educational and community buildings and industries.
We undertake turn-key projects if required from design - build - install - test, through to commissioning. All works are carried out to current ETCI and EN standards. We will build control panels and switchgear to clients drawings and specifications or we will design and provide drawings where required."
All this helps provide the spark for Electro-Mech Construction Ltd to defy these difficult times for business as they are the number one choice for many looking to resolve their electrical issues both fast and efficiently.
However, being number one doesn't often come easy, as Sean's son Niall found out early on in the 2010 season with the minor footballers of Monaghan.
While he Sean himself was fortunate to avoid injury during his brief hurling career with Castleblayney, this year Niall was unlucky in suffering a dislocated shoulder early on in the season which, as a goalkeeper, effectively ruled him out for the remainder of the year.
Ironically, it was this same year (2010) that Sean was offered to come on board with sponsorship towards the Monaghan football development squad and he took little time to hesitate, as a contribution towards the local GAA scene had always been on the agenda for him and fellow Co-Director Joe McConnon.
"My young lad Niall is on the development squad these last few years," said Sean.
"They asked us if we would get involved with sponsorship this year and we did. Niall got called up for the goals for the county minor squad this year and he plays his club with Aughnamullen Sarsfields, but unfortunately he dislocated his shoulder early on in the season and missed out on a lot of football this year."
Niall will be keeping two fingers crossed that he can make a return to action between the posts for both club and county in 2011, but surgery could be on the cards for the young shot-stopper before he lines out again in the number one jersey.
This past summer, Monaghan's minor footballers suffered the disappointment of an early exit from the ESB Ulster Minor Football Championship at the hands of then All-Ireland championships Armagh.
Played at Pairc Esler on May 29, Armagh, who had the benefit of a preliminary round win over Derry, dominated the first-half with Paul McGeown registering 1-2 to help them to a 1-6 to 0-4 interval lead.
Monaghan reduced the deficit to two points when Jack McCarron netted in the 46th minute and could have had a further goal through Keith McEnaney before the Orchard boys pulled clear again thanks to points from McGeown and Barry Seeley.
McGeown was the star of the show though and he went on to help himself to 1-5 in a Man of the Match display which ultimately buried the young Farney men's hopes of a place in the last four of the province on a 1-13 to 1-8 score-line.
2011 is another year though.
