Campbell Foods continue to impress

December 30, 2010
For this year's edition of the Monaghan Yearbook, we profile the Rockcorry based company and speak to General Manager Margaret Ward about the history and success of the business.
Specialising in the distribution of frozen, chilled and ambient goods, Campbell Foods is a family run business that is now entering its seventh decade.
Margaret has been with the company for the past eleven years and oversees the day to day running of the business, which starts from early morning and finishes late at night.
"I would oversee everything from purchasing to sales, but I'm fortunate to have a good, reliable staff that makes my job all the more easier. We would have a low turnover of employees and many are with us for years now, most of whom would be employed from the local area," revealed Margaret.
"There are 13 people employed within the company  at the moment. Basically what we do is source products from all over Europe and bring them here where they are re-distributed in the retail, and foods service markets."
"We would have a portfolio of about 3,000 products and depending on the time of year, other products would be more popular than others, but we are busy all year through thankfully with one range or another."
Margaret feels that customer satisfaction is one of the main reasons for the success of the company and to ensure this, the general manager is always on hand to deal with any enquiries.
"I would have my phone on all the times and no matter what time it is, I will endeavour to help our customers with any problems or enquiries that they may have.
"We have a large customer base, many of who are with us for years and we deliver in Monaghan, Louth, Cavan, Meath and Westmeath and a little in Northern Ireland.
"Customer satisfaction is imperative to the success of any business and to that end we ensure that we always put the customer first. We have a loyal client base and our aim is to retain our relationships and indeed add more to it. Our customers are the bloodline to our company as in any company" 'Without customers we would not exist'
'The Customer is King'.
Campbell Foods take a great pride in the level of service that they provide and they are accessible 24/7 meaning that the customer has piece of mind when it comes to on time delivery.
"We supply to shops, bars, restaurants, hotels and take away's and regardless of when someone wants a delivery, we will do our best to be there as quickly as possible. The customer gets what they want; in the right place; at the right time; at the right price; in the right way it's as simple as that."
Margaret feels that the hands on approach, adds a personal touch that their customers like to see. "I would go out and do some of the deliveries form time to time if need be. It is all about a team effort here and if it has to be done, it will be."
The relentless drive for customer satisfaction is something that Campbell Foods has striven to maintain since first being established and grown by owners Norman and Elizabeth Campbell.
These days their son Marc is director of the company, but their work ethos has never changed and Margaret stressed that it never will either.
"The work ethic here is to deliver a top quality service to the customer and ensure they are more than happy with the service that we provide.
"To that end, we are confident that we can maintain the level of service we are currently producing and if that is achieved then there should be no reason not to have a successful future."
"We are always looking at ways of improving the business and not just to carry on the way we are. It is important to move with the times and keep up with the customers needs."
Campbell Foods have always looked after the local community and they help out with sponsorship where they can. Indeed the sponsored the Rockcorry adult GAA team in the past.
GAA teams could draw comparison with Campbell Foods as they do have an excellent team working together to achieve their goals. Hard work and determination are attributes that link both the GAA and the Monaghan based distribution company.
The 2011 campaign will see the Monaghan footballers enter a new era as Eamonn McEneaney begins his term in charges of the Farney County. Hopes will be high that their barren spell without an Ulster championship title can be ended, but regardless of what the results are, they can be sure that their passionate supporters will support them all the way.
In the last few years, the county has made great strides and the new manager will be keen to build on that over the coming months, but there is no doubt that just like Campbell Foods, the Monaghan footballers will be working hard to reach their targets.
