Doohamlet GFC Notes
September 01, 2010
A very good week on the playing field with our Seniors advancing to the semi-final of the Intermediate Championship with a seven point victory over Eire Og and also our talented Under 14 squad reaching their league final with a comprehensive win over Carrick.
Seniors: Doohamlet 1-08 Eire Og 0-04
A penalty kick midway through the second half by Ciaran McManus eventually broke the Eire Og resistance and Doohamlet took complete control in the final quarter and now advance to the semi-final stage.
This game never really took off and Doohamlet were probably the better team throughout but a failure to convert scores always kept Eire Og within touching distance. Ted Duffy opened Doohamlets account followed by a Shane McManus fisted effort. Mark Murphy then hit Doohamlets third point within the first 15 minutes. Doohamlet forwards then missed a number of scoring chances and allowed Eire Og to hit the next two points from J. McMahon and a free kick from D. Tierney. Glen Comiskey scored a fine point from the right wing to close the half 0-04 to 0-02.
Doohamlet missed a goal chance on the restart when Shane McManus blasted at the Eire Og keeper and had further misses from Ollie Hughes and Niall J. Connolly before Eire Og made it a one point game with another converted free. This was as close as Eire Og got and when Niall Jim Connolly was brought down in the square Ciaran McManus riffled to the net from the resultant penalty. Further scores from Glen Comiskey, Ted Duffy, Shane McManus and Mark Murphy saw Doohamlet home with seven point to spare.
Again Doohamlets defence were superb with Gabie Casey, Marty Hughes and Shane J. Connolly outstanding in the fullback line. Half backs Kevin McArdle, Colin Walshe and Darren Connolly were rock solid and each willing to attack at will. Our defence only conceded four points (3 frees) and this speaks for itself.
Midfield paring of Glen Comiskey and Ciaran McManus worked tirelessly throughout and contributed 1-02 of our final score.
Our forwards must convert more of our scoring chances. We hit 13 wides over the hour. However there were some great scores taken from Shane McManus, Mark Murphy and Ted Duffy. Niall Jim Connolly worked tirelessly at wing forward and Johnny Duffy when introduced also showed well. Doohamlet now await the winners from a backdoor qualifier game to be played on 11th, September.

U14's Div 2 League Semi-Final: Doohamlet 3-12 Carrick 0-09
Our talented U14 squad faced the daunting task of playing Carrick in this semi-final played at Doohamlet on Tuesday evening last. However this team showed no fear to their more illustrious opponents and led each quarter. Carrick had no answer to the power and pace of a Doohamlet team that have come up together since under 8/10.
M.J. O'Connor was solid throughout in goal and his kickouts were intelligent and fast. Matthew Byrne was outstanding in defence with his reading of the game and strength on the ball. Ryan Ingram also showed well after a nervous start and Jamie Walshe, Mark Connolly and John Duffy kept the Carrick forwards well marshalled. Midfield pairing of Barry McGinn and Damian Ward totally dominated this area and supplied ample ball to our eager forwards, Sean Loughman and Hugh McGinn flanked Conor Marray and all scored at will. Our inside forwards Matthew McKenna and Cormac McKenna worked their socks off for the team. Ryan McManus, Jack Ingram and Dermot Kelly complete this panel and each and every player have given their all this season and to qualify for a Division 2 final is testament to their skill and hard work all season.
A remarkable achievement for this for this group of lads. Hopefully all Doohamlet supporters will turn out on Final Day and gave these lads the support they deserve.
