Toome GAA Notes

August 31, 2010
U.14s v Truagh: Two goals conceded by Toome within 6 minutes at the start of the first quarter, laid the foundations for a Truagh victory in the semi- final of the U14 Division 2 football League on Monday 30 August in St Victor's Park, on a score line of 4.12 to 1.16.

Ryan Murphy (0.3) opened the Reds account with a point after 7 minutes, and Aaron Kelly (0.7) and Sean McMahon (0.2) followed with points apiece, but the Gaels hit the net again from close range, leaving the visitors ahead by 3.0 to 0.3.
While the more physical Truagh combination dictated the pace for most of the first quarter, Toome got to grips with the game on the resumption of play, with Aaron, Darragh McKenna (0.1) and Sean, contributing points, to draw the second period at 0.3 points apiece.

Toome continued to up their game in the third quarter and with points from Aaron, James Wilson (0.1), Frank Connolly, (0.1), they finished off with a lead of 0.7 to 0.4, reducing the overall margin to 3 points. In the final quarter, however, Truagh clocked up a tally of 1.5 to Toome's 1.3, - a goal and a point from Conan McGovern (1.1), and points from Aaron - leaving the Reds trailing by 1.5 to 1.3 for this period or a margin of 5 points overall.

A feature of this game was, again, the magnificent long - range scoring accuracy of Aaron Kelly at centre forward. John Gorman in goals made a number of excellent saves, and was not at fault for any of the goals. Hugo Connolly and Bartek formed a strong full back line. Kieran McCooey, Danny Friskey and Micky Connolly worked extremely hard, and Sean McMahon and Darragh McKenna, contributed greatly throughout. Frank Connolly and Mark McMahon were excellent in attack and Ryan Murphy and James Wilson were continually tracking back and foraging to good effect. Conan McGovern made an impact on arrival with a well-taken goal and a point. Kieran Blessing steadied up the defensive unit considerably when he came on. Paul Duffy and Luke Murtagh completed the panel.

Irene, Enda, Louise and the team, would like to thank the parents and followers for their tremendous support throughout this competition and look forward to seeing them later on in the championship.
