Scotstown club notes

August 25, 2010
Senior Championship: Our seniors got through to the next round of the championship with a two point win over Latton on Saturday last. Substitute, Shane Carey was the hero on the night with a 57th minute goal to carry them through. In the game itself Latton made the perfect start and had a two-point advantage in the early stages of the first half. Mark McDevitt and Brian McGinnity points kept us in touch as Latton led by 4pts to 2 with 24mins gone. Then within a few minutes James Turley and Donal Morgan scores had the sides level at 4pts each. But Scotstown went into the break in front with a Brian McGinnity score to eave half time at 5pts to 4. It was a dogged game with hard tackling at times as both sides were on level terms on 4 separate occasions. Latton had fought back, when Scotstown were 8pts to 6 up after 40mins, with opening second half scores coming from Kieran Hughes, Donal Morgan and David McCague. Brian had restored Scotstown's lead to 9pt to 8 after Latton had made it all square once again. Then the all important goal came, which put Scotstown 3 up, with Latton replying with a point to leave the final score at 1-9 to 10

U21s: Our U21s did well on Monday last with a four point win away to Donaghmoyne. First half scores through Damien McArdle (3), Kieran Hughes (3), Daniel McNally (2), Mark Treanor (1), and Conor Caulfield (2) had set our lads up with a half time lead of 11pts to 5. In the first minute of the second half a Cian Mohan goal extended the advantage and by the end of the third quarter Scotstown were ahead 3-11 to 8pts, with goals from Conor Caulfield and Mark Treanor. Donaghmoyne had a strong finish, were they went looking for goals, Rory Beggan had denied them on a few occasions with some good saves but the home side finally did the for two goals in the remaining two minutes and possible could have had a third, only for Rory Beggan saving a penalty in injury time. Kieran Hughes registered the final point for Scotstown as the game ended on a score of 3-12 to 2-11.

Reserve League Div 1: Our B team lost to Blaney in the semi final of the Reserve League on Tuesday last by 8pts to 6

U16 Championship: On Thursday 2nd September our U16s are due to play Monaghan Harps in the first round of the championship.

Ciste Draw: This Saturday 28th August the Ciste Draw will take place in the Social Club.

Club Meeting: On Thursday 26th August our Club Meeting will be in Kilmore at 8.45pm
Speedy Recovery: The club would like to send speedy recovery to Mark McDevitt and William Carroll who sustained recent football injuries.

Good Luck: To all the students who received their Leaving Cert results last week and we wish them well in their future prospects.

Juveniles:
U12 Div1: Our first team booked a place in the Coyle Cup final where they will play Monaghan Harps on Saturday 4th September. They had a good all round performance on Tuesday last with a win over Donaghmoyne.

U12 Div5: Scotstown qualified for the division 5 shield final with a 7-6 to 3-6 win over Rockcorry on Saturday 21st August at St Mary's Park. This was the best performance of the year by the team and although Rockcorry threatened a comeback in the fourth quarter, crucial goals by Eanna Deery and Cillian Sherry helped the team to a deserved victory. The opposition in the final will be Sean McDermotts, a team whom Scotstown have lost twice to already this season. Scotstown's shrewd management team of Kevin Boylan and Owen McCague will be well aware that improvements still have to be made.

Team: Liam McCague, Peter McPhillips, Cillian Sherry, Finn McCarney, Eanna Deery, Devon Mulligan, Owen McCague, James McCague, Mathew Rowe. Subs used: Shane Moran and Aaron Boylan.

Congratulations to Fintan Hackett on winning the U-12 drums at the Fleadh Ceol in Cavan on Saturday 21st August.

Bar Rota: Sean McKenna and Kevin Boylan
