Activ8 support Corduff

December 31, 2009
Due to the ever increasing cost of fuel, the growing focus on reducing carbon emissions and with the recent introduction of carbon taxes people now more than ever are looking for alternative sources of energy.

One such way is the introduction of solar panels, which have become very popular in Ireland and leading the way in this field of expertise is our very own Activ8 Energies, a Monaghan based company, which has grown considerably since its establishment five years ago. Their new offices, showroom and warehouse were officially opened in May of this year by Minister Eamon Ryan.
Activ8 Energies is owned by Corduff native Ciaran Marron and he speaks to us about the growth of the business and his sponsorship with the local mens and ladies football team.
A keen football supporter, Ciaran lent his support to the Corduff mens' senior side for the last two seasons, while this year, he also sponsored the ladies side.
With Ciaran's family been actively involved in the community for decades and members of his family and many friends involved with both teams, it was an easy decision for Ciaran to get involved and he admits following the success of both the ladies team and reserve team in 2009, he was delighted to have come on board.
"It was a remarkable year for the ladies winning the junior championship title and then the Ulster club championship as well," said Ciaran.
"They travelled to London for the All-Ireland quarterfinal and having won that game, they had to play Clonakilty in Cork the following weekend and to be fair that was a tall order, given the travelling that they had to do, only returning Monday night and leaving for Cork on Friday. Tiredness was certainly a major factor in the semi final and unfortunately, Clonakilty just proved too strong on the day. The girls' can be very proud of their performances all year. They are a great group of girls with exceptional talent and no doubt will be in contention for silverware next year"
"Our Reserve team also had an exceptional year this year beating Seans in the County final and have reached the Championship final where they face Emyvale. The lads along with management have put in a serious commitment and fully deserve to complete the double".
"Our minor team had a record year this year winning both the League and Championship. This team has been built from U-10 and had great success through the years. With young rising stars like Keith McEnaney, Brendan McNally and Ben Woods to name but a few, the future looks bright for our senior team. A truly deserved victory for Frank McEnaney, the team and mentors".
Ciaran also follows the fortunes of the Monaghan footballers very closely and is also a member of the organizing committee of the "Farney Barney" White Collar Boxing Night which he believes will be a huge success.
"This will be an excellent night entertainment, with every club in Monaghan been represented the stakes will be high. Nobody will give up easily" he says with a smile.
Ciaran believes that Monahan's 2010 campaign could finally be the year that they end their barren spell in Ulster.
"I've been impressed by the backroom team that Banty has put in place. On their day they're as good as anyone and hopefully next year is the year that they can make that breakthrough. A lot of the current squad have worked extremely hard over the last few years and they deserve something for their efforts, an Ulster title would be nice, but it is probably the hardest provincial campaign to win."
As Ireland's leading installer of domestic and commercial thermal systems, Activ8 Energies provide the complete service to its clients meaning that they don't subcontract any part of the installation.
"We are very busy at the moment," he added. "The commercial market is quiet enough as expected, but the private sector is keeping us very busy and we are doing in the region of 20 to 25 houses per week. There are not near as many new houses being built as there was but many people are deciding to add solar panels to their conventional heating system for the long term savings involved, while doing their bit for the environment."
Many may feel that installing the solar panels would be a long drawn out messy process just like when doing a conversion or other construction work is being done, but that is certainly not the case as Ciaran revealed.
"It only takes one day for us to complete an installation. I believe that we are the only company in the country that can reliably do it in that time. No other tradesmen are needed during the installation, once we leave the house, the job is complete".
"Each day we have crews travelling all over Ireland. It's all about the service provided and we feel that we are providing a service that is unrivalled by anyone." All products used by the company of the highest quality, giving the customer peace of mind that what they are receiving is the best of the best. Depending on the customers hot water needs, the standard installation can vary from a one-panel system up to a 10 or 12 panel system.
Contrary to some reports, solar panels can be as effective during the winter as they are in the summer, the rate at which the water heats up may be slightly slower, but the end results are the same.
Ciaran himself has a degree in Electronic engineering along with a FETAC Electrical Apprenticeship. He completed advanced training in solar thermal and heat-pump systems in Austria. He was one of the first in Ireland to complete FETAC training courses in Solar Thermal, Heat-pump Systems and BER (Building Energy Rating) when it was introduced here. Ciaran has won numerous engineering awards including an Intel scholarship at DKIT and the IEI (Irish Engineers of Ireland) prestigious Peter Rice award. Ciaran believes correct training and education is essential at all positions within his company. "All of our installation crews are trained to the highest European solar installation standards"
Based in Carrickmacross, the company now employs over thirty personnel and provides a nationwide service.
