Emyvale made all the headlines last weekend on the club scene, breaking through the Ulster club championship barrier at the first attempt to take the Paul Kerr Memorial Cup at the second time of asking in a thrill a minute spectacular in Newry. While Emyvale were making history in Newry back at home Currin and Sean McDermotts fought out a draw in a somewhat scrappy and disappointing Dr Ward Cup final in Clones although this was a game that Sean McDermotts will look back on as one where they could have had matters wrapped up by half-time. Currin relied almost exclusively on the accuracy of Jack McCarron from frees and he scored eight of their 10 points, all from placed balls with Dick Clerkin firing over two long-range efforts also from frees to complete the scoring. Sean McDermotts who registered 1-7 scored six of their points from frees. In the intermediate football league Monaghan Harps booked their place in the final at the expense of Tyholland and they will meet Drumhowan who accounted for the challenge of Aghabog in McKeown Park to make for what is a rerun of the intermediate football championship final. The only other game played last week was the delayed semi-final of the O'Duffy Cup with Castleblayney booking their place in the final against Clontibret at the expense of Donaghmoyne.
