AIB ULSTER JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINALEmyvale v Shane O'Neills: Casement Park: Sunday November 15th @ 2.30pm. Emyvale and Armagh junior champions Shane O'Neills are both exploring virgin territory this year as it is their first foray into Ulster club championship competition. Both came through their opening round matches, Emyvale disposing of Newtownstewart with only a point to spare but Shane O'Neills were much more emphatic in their victory over the Derry champions, Sean Dolan's, back on Sunday, November 1st. It is difficult however to assess the real value of Shane O'Neills in that they had things much their own way in their quarter-final against the Derry side. Despite that though they had a number of very impressive performers in that match and none more so than two of their full forward line, Neil Paul Lennon and full forward Patrick Gregory. They both registered 1-2 each with the goals coming late on to underline their overall superiority on the day. They also had the best player on view in that match in captain Brendan Mackin who was playmaker in chief from his 40 yards berth. This time around though he is up against the experienced John Flannery and may well feel a little more restricted given Flannery's powers of concentration. Ray Fitzpatrick and James Lennon formed a strong midfield partnership but Emyvale too have quality in this area with big Brendan McKenna and the ever improving Patrick J. McKenna. One thing Shane O'Neill's will look for this time around is a better start because they allowed the Derry champions to steal an early march although when they settled they turned it around with relative ease. "We gave Sean Dolan's an easy start but you cannot take that chance every time because if you give a team a head start the chances are you're not going to get back into it and that is something we have to learn from our last match. It worked out for us on the day all right but the lads now know that they will have to go at it from the word go next time around" O'Neill's manager Martin Lynch was quoted as saying. The manner in which they engineered that turnaround will give Emyvale cause for concern because against opposition of this quality they will not be able to afford any lapses in concentration. O'Neills too have strength in depth. Kieran Murphy came on for them and laid down a marker that he would be claiming a starting position as he hit four excellent points and their finishing was that much more clinical than the opposition.Gerry McCarville will outline to his charges prior to the game of the need for a degree of intensity and a high work rate but he wasn't over committing in his post match comments last weekend. "We will take every game as it comes, we're in an Ulster semi final and that's where we want to be. There are things we can improve on and we will talk about that during the week but the main thing is we are there".Shane O'Neill's manager Martin Lynch is of the same opinion and repeatedly stressed that he has players on his side who will work their socks off and who are willing to stand up to the mark and show good mental strength which will be a key element in Sunday's encounter. Emyvale full-back line will certainly have to be on their toes and Gerry McCarville will hope that Ciaran Connolly will be fit to start as he had to retire in their game against Newtownstewart. Sean McMeel's ability to read the play superbly can also be a feature as his vital interceptions have kept Emyvale in a number of matches this year already.Martin McAree on the 40 will again be looked to for the leadership and the finish but O'Neills have an accomplished centre back in Patrick Doran and the outcome of that particular battle could well be central. In full-back Daniel Fearon they have another accomplished performer who likes at times to indulge in forays up field as his point in their last game proves but will have to be a little more careful this time around as Emyvale have the players to punish on counter-attacks. This one has all the ingredients to produce a thriller between two attack minded teams and could very well take a second meeting or at least extra time to sort out.Throw-in in Casement Park on Sunday is at 2:30 p.m..
