Kingdom Kerry Gaels 2-3 Corduff (Monaghan) 4-9 On a very windy afternoon, London and Britain champions Kingdom Kerry Gaels took on Ulster Champions Corduff in the All Ireland Quarter final in Greenford. Corduff, managed by Monaghan manager Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney were well prepared for the game and turned up in London with massive support. They cruised the the 1st half with the wind behind their backs going in 3-9 to no score at half time. Laura McEnaney was outstanding at full forward helping herself to 1-6, twins Emma Byrne and Louise Byrne were also stand out performers tormenting the KKG backs. Unfortuntely for KKG, the wind died down in the 2nd half but the girls in Green and Gold fought on and although they couldn't catch up with the score put up by Corduff in the 1st half they still showed just why they are the British Champions with a much better display. Two well taken points for the reliable Sarah Kelly got KKG off the board before Corduff were awarded a penalty when it looked like KKG keeper Aoife Cunningham was fouled coming out of her goal, Corduff converted the penalty but KKG fought back again. A clever shot from Anne Woulfe was wonderfully saved by Corduff keeper Kerrie Augley but Linda Cummins was on hand he dispatch the ball clinically in the back on the net. Just a few minutes later Augley was picking the ball out of the net again, this time KKG sub Michelle Carribane finding the net. The excellent Sharon Murphy completed the days scoring with a well taken free. Despite the poor conditions the game was very entertaining and a credit to both teams. For KKG there was many girls that played well. As usual Rhona Newell was outstanding, Claire Guckian, Aisling McGeehan and Ciara McAree stood out and should be proud of their days work. Number one KKG supporter Sean Houlihan was happy with the effort the girls put in and will be looking forward to their Division 1 final against Holloway Gaels next weekend.
