Scotstown club notes
November 19, 2008
Minors: Well done to our minor team on achieving a Double success in 2008. On Friday night last in Inniskeen we won back to back Minor Championship in a tight, hard fought exciting game, which kept the large crowd on their toes right to the end. Scotstown had the strong wind in the first half and led by 7pts to 1 at half time. On the restart of the 2nd half Scotstown extended their lead to 10pts with a goal and a point in a space of 4mins. Peter O' Hara won the throw-in where he laid on the ball to Aaron and he in turn passed to Mark Treanor to score an important goal. Playing against the strong wind made things difficult to deliver the ball to our forward line.St Pat's kept going right to the end and then suddenly Scotstown found themselves hanging on as St Pat's kept coming back into the game and with 8mins remaining, only 3pts separated the sides with Scotstown holding the edge by 1-8 to 8. But then a free by Kieran Hughes on 57mins made it 1-9 to 8. St pat's replied with a goal on 59mins. In the end Our Minors held on to win by 1-9 to 1-8 in a very exciting game. Credit to the management team of Gerard Caulfield, Dermot Maguire and Michael Caulfield, which has been a great 3yrs for the management, achieving two Minor League and two Minor Championship titles. Keep up the good work. Also we have to thank Eamon O' Hara, who came on board this year to help with the minor team. Minor Training: Training will resume on Tuesday 25th Nov at 7pm in Kilmore
Seniors: Our chance of reaching a league final ended last Sunday as Blaney won by 3pts in a reasonable good game. The first half was close with nothing separating the sides as they shared the spoils at half time of 4pts each. Points from James Turley (3) and a single point by Brian Mc Ginnity was the highlight of the first half. At the start of the second half Scotstown made the first attack with Substitute Mark Mc Devitt denied a goal after a good save from the Blaney goalie. Blaney then went two ahead on 34mins (6-4). But by the 40th Minute Scotstown went in front with a Donal Caulfield goal. It was a good ball in from Brian Mc Ginnity, which was punched down by David Mc Cague onto Donal who put away his effort well. This was followed by another goal attempt by Nicholas Corrigan, which went narrowly wide. Scotstown were ahead by 1-5 to 6 at this stage. This was to be our last score as Blaney where handed a present of a goal on 49mins, with a further Blaney point, it left the final outcome at Scotstown 1-5 to Blaney 1-8. We wish Blaney the best of luck in the final. The Club would like to express our gratitude to the Management team of Sean Mc Cague, Gerry Mc Carville and trainer Niall Moyna. Thanks to Declan Stirratt and Laura Mc Cague for their assistance during the year.
