U13 League Clontibret 3-07, Sean's 1-09. Our u13s earned a well deserved victory over Sean's in the league last Saturday. We went in a point down at half time after having played against a strong breeze. Our second half performance was top drawer and we turned the game around to win by five points. Our final league game is this Saturday at 11.30am away to Latton, with the semi-finals being played the following Saturday. Toome club notes Lotto: 6th October 2008. (Jackpot ?6000). No winner. The New All Weather Astro Turf Pitch is now completed; the carpet has been laid and filled with the appropriate quantity and quality of infill in order to mimic natural playing conditions. The fencing, floodlighting, goal posts and cross field netting are all erected and the club now has an amenity to compare with any Astro Turf playing facility in the country. This development will enable all year round outdoor facilities for training and playing purposes for the youth of the area. The full pitch measures 75 x 40 metres and may be subdivided into 3 pitches, each measuring 25 x 40 metres. This amenity is available to other clubs, interested groups and schools. A ?2 weekly cover charge also applies for the use of the Astro Turf. Under 13 League: The U13s travelled to Oram last Saturday and after a tough encounter where they battled back to turn a five point deficit into a six point winning margin. Their victory in Oram is rewarded with a place in the semi-finals against Ballybay with Ballybay earning home advantage. The last meeting of these two sides was a close affair with only one point separating the sides at full time and a win for BAllybay. It promises to be an exciting match and your support will be most welcome. The match is provisionally fixed for Saturday 18th October. Throw-in time has yet to be decided. Check these notes and the Toome GAA website for confirmation of times and dates. Junior Football Championship: Our championship hopes were brought to an end in Aughnamullen last weekend by title favourites Drumhowan. The match from a Toome perspective was largely disappointing as we did not play to our full potential and with that allowed Drumhowan build a considerable lead early on. However amidst the disappointment there were undoubtedly positives from Saturday's game and indeed our championship run in general. Our never say die attitude was to the fore as we managed to close the gap to get within three points which started with a Stephen McCooey goal and helped with some fine points by Gerard Cunningham and solid goal-keeping by Niall Finnegan. This match was no less than our sixth game of the championship this year and considering the oldest man in red was only 26, the future looks good for this remarkably improved team. Drumhowan's experienced campaigners were evident during the match and none more so when Toome endeavoured a comeback. A second goal by James McElroy and decisive forward play by the ever shrewd Stephen McGinnity ensured there would only be one winner last Saturday. We are told that Rome wasn't built in a day, well; either are championship winning teams but the expression "sooner rather than later" definitely springs to mind. Junior League: We play Currin at home in the last remaining match of the league. A victory here should ensure a playoff for fourth or possibly third spot. Dates and times have yet to be decided.
