Fixtures
September 02, 2008
With the All Ireland senior hurling championship final taking centre stage at national level this weekend it is a fairly limited programme of fixtures in Monaghan were top billing goes to the senior football Championship replay between Latton and Clontibret and the two quarter finals in the McGuigan Builders intermediate football championship.
As well as that there are a couple of games in the senior football league and the junior football league while Tuesday next, September 9th, sees a round of matches in the Boyle and Curran sponsored minor league division 3 as well as the quarter finals of the minor championship.
The action for the weekend gets under way this evening, Thursday September 4th with two games in the senior hurling league that see Carrickmacross at home against Inniskeen and Latton travelling to Truagh although with Latton involved in the senior football championship replay on Saturday that game may possibly be postponed.
Latton and Clontibret go back to Castleblayney on Saturday afternoon at three o'clock to see who will advance to the semi-final of the senior championship and who will join Magheracloone, Scotstown and Carrickmacross in the quarter finals. Both sides will know that there are aspects of their game where they will have to improve particularly in their finishing but this one is going to be another closely contested affair between two very evenly match sides and may well take the extra time allowed for in replays.
Saturday evening sees the two intermediate championship quarter finals down for decision, one in Clontibret between Aughnamullen and Truagh and the other in Drumhowan between Donaghmoyne and Corduff with both timed for 6.00p.m.. Aughnamullen and Truagh both lost their intermediate league matches last weekend so they will look to improve on that form to see which of them can book a semi-final spot to join Ballybay and Emyvale. The meeting of Donaghmoyne and Corduff is one of those local derby matches that could go either way but with Rory Woods back in the Donaghmoyne fold having served out his one match suspension that could just tip the balance in Donaghmoyne's favour. Corduff though are enjoying a good season even though maybe not producing the level of consistency they would like and they certainly will be in the hunt.
LEAGUES.
Meanwhile in the senior football league on Saturday at 3.00pm Magheracloone are at home against Scotstown while Carrickmacross travel to Tyholland.
In the junior football league Toome have home advantage over Clones and Killanny travel to Killeevan.
