Doohamlet club notes

November 27, 2019

A.G.M.:  Doohamlet GFC held their A.G.M. on Saturday evening last and this was a very low key affair and all topics were dealt with in a short time.

Secretary Paul Campbell opened the meeting with his very comprehensive report on all matters both on and off the field in 2019.  He praised manager Dessie McBennett and his selector Shane McManus and trainor Raymond Johnson for all their efforts during a difficult season.  Others who gave sterling service were kit man JoJo McDonnell, physios Emmett McManus and Mary Meehan and also Eamon Connolly and Philip Murphy who worked diligently behind the scenes.

Philip Murphy and his selectors Greg Duffy and Martin Hughes were also thanked for their efforts with the reserve team.

Benny Coleman and Ollie Hughes were commended on their efforts with the U17 team who reached the Div 4 Championship final with a very young group of players and Emmett McManus Noeleen McBennett and Eamon Hughes were very much to the fore with this team.

Special mention also to Eamon Hughes who was congratulated on his new role with Monaghan GAA and we wish Eamon well in this prestigious position.

Paul also congratulated our six players who were selected on the Intermediate All Star team 2018 James Casey, Colin and Jamie Walshe, Conor Marray, Jason McElroy and Barry McBennett.  Also Paul congratulated Jason McElroy who was awarded Intermediate Player of the Year.

After a brief breakdown of our league and championship fixtures Senior, Reserve and U17 our Secretary gave a detailed account of all off the field activities.

Our dinner dance to celebrate our Double winning team of 2018 was an outstanding success.  Special thanks to Bernie O’Neill for all her hard work organising this event and anyone who helped in any way.  Special Thank You to all who helped and contributed to all our fundraising activities mainly the weekly Blotto, the National Club Draw, Cairde Duabhamlacht and our Annual Lorcan Duffy Golf Classic.

Our new field development has now begun and a huge amount of volunteers have given their time and effort already to this massive project.  Jim Connolly, Gavan Duffy and P.J. Meehan must be commended for their overview of this project.

Finally Paul thanked Gerry and Deirdre McElroy and all our sponsors who without their help the running of our Club would be so difficult.  He also extended sympathy to everyone who lost loved ones over the year and concluded by thanking his fellow committee members and Co. Board officers who helped him throughout the year.

Finally Paul thanked the most important members within the club, the players.  The dedication and hard work these players gave, especially having such a small panel they are a credit to their club and families.

Eamon Hughes our Juvenile officer gave a detailed account of all our juvenile activities and special praise for all coaches who help out with these youngsters.  Once again we hosted a very successful Cúl Camp.  Special congratulations to Tommie Duffy and Eoin Coleman on their selection on the U14 Development squad and to David McGinn who represented Monaghan on the U15 development squad.

Thank You to Charlene Casey for sponsoring New jerseys for the U7 and U9 boys and girls teams.  Eamon concluded by thanking all who have helped him on an exciting journey and he wished all future success.

Bernie O’Neill gave a very comprehensive report on all our financial details and thankfully our Club is in a healthy state.  2020 will be a huge year for our Club financially as we continue to develop our playing field and we would hope the Doohamlet supporters will continue to help us see this project complete.

Our Chairman P.J. Meehan gave the meeting a final report thanking all our sponsors and our loyal supporters for getting behind the team in a difficult season.  He thanked all the coaches from Senior to Juvenile level and also thanked his fellow officers for their loyal support and help throughout the year.

The meeting then held their selection of officers for 2020 and only one major change saw Martin Walshe step down as Pro after seventeen years in this role.  Noeleen McBennett will take up the reins and no doubt Noeleen will be more than capable and lets hope she has many happy occasions to report.

Finally I would like to thank all my fellow officers for their help over the last number of years. We had many ups and downs along the way.  We had heartache and tragedy but our Club rallied together.  I thank all the managers and players who gave us such memorable victories, four Intermediate titles, 2 Intermediate doubles, Reserve titles and Minor championships and who could forget our forays into Ulster. What an occasion it was in 2013 when both Monaghan Senior and Minor teams stopped off in our village and club players Colin Walshe and Barry McGinn held aloft Ulster title silverware, great memories.    I also thank the Co.
