Aughnamullen club notes

September 18, 2019

Pride of Place: Pride of Place this week must surely go to former senior player David Shevlin who was part of the management of Louth All Ireland Winning side in Croke Park last Sunday. It must be the experience he gathered at coaching our u17 & u18 teams in recent years that helped him along.

Intermediate Championship: All roads lead to Scotstown this Saturday evening at 5pm against Emyvale in the Quarter Final of the Intermediate Championship. Best wishes is extended to the team and management as they aim to reach the semi final of the Championship for the first time since 2017.

Intermediate League: On Sunday last the Senior team secured a crucial win against Tyholland in the penultimate game of the league defeating the hosts by 3-14 to 1-14. This was a game which was in the "melting pot" till the final whistle and credit must be given to the team for never giving up. In the first half the home side went into a commanding lead and at 1 stage led by 6 but credit to the Sarsfields they fought back to be just 1 point down at the break 1-6 to 1-5. In the second half the 2 teams traded point for point and entering the final 2 minutes Tyholland held a slender 1 point lead however a crucial goal by the blues gave them a life line and they followed with another break away goal to emerge victorious. The final game is against Donaghmoyne on the 6th October where a number of different scenarios will come into effect if they are to avoid relegation or consolidation for 2020.
