Ulster MFC final: Farney retain crown

Monaghan's Declan Courtney celebrates with Shane Hanratty

Monaghan 1-13

Tyrone 1-11

Monaghan registered 17 wides, but still had enough to beat Tyrone and retain their Ulster minor football title at the Athletic Grounds.

Darragh Dempsey posted five points from placed balls, while Michael Hamill netted in the 42nd minute to cancel out Michael McGleenan's earlier strike for Tyrone as the Farney landed the spoils.

Luke Donnelly and McGleenan slotted early points for the Red Hands, only for Monaghan to level through efforts from Kyle Connolly and Dempsey. However, Tyrone upped the ante to open up a 0-5 to 0-2 lead before the holders regained parity once again thanks to scores from Eoin Duffy and Jason Irwin.

Diarmuid Marron then edged them ahead for the first time and they were still a point to the good, 0-9 to 0-8, at the break.

McGleenan's goal gave Tyrone the perfect start to the second half and Donnelly's fourth point had them three points up before the outstanding Karl Gallagher set up Irwin for a point. Hamill's goal propelled the winners back into the lead, and they held on for the win, despite kicking a litany of wides.
