GOLF CLASSIC A HUGE SUCCESS

Last weekend saw the staging of the McAree Engineering sponsored Monaghan GAA Golf Classic in Rossmore Golf Club, spread over two days, last Friday, May 10th and Saturday May 11th. In what was a bumper occasion the weather also played its part which made for  two excellent days play for the near-record number of teams that were entered. Special guests on the day were Anthony McKenna, who is the chairman of the fundraising committee for the Monaghan GAA Supporters Club New York Club Golf classic and Niall McKenna, also from the Big Apple. Speaking briefly they expressed their delight at how successful their event in New York had been over the previous weekend with Anthony McKenna talking of how delighted he was to be able to support the Monaghan County team in their efforts on the field of play and he wished them every success in their forthcoming Ulster championship match against Cavan, this Saturday. A very popular part of the entertainment just prior to the prize giving on Saturday night was a “Talk Sport” type presentation with special guests Brendan Beggan, Monaghan, Peter McGinnity, Fermanagh, Charlie Redmond, Dublin and Eugene McKenna of Tyrone, but who also in its time plied his trade with the Truagh club. MC on the night, JP Graham conducted a wide-ranging conversation and elicited anecdotal contributions from all four along with other contributions from former Dublin players Dave Sinnott and Mick Deegan, former Monaghan players Gerry McCarville and Eugene Sherry. Prior to the presentation the Rossmore Captain Pat McMorrow welcomed everyone and paid tribute to the organising committee, particularly Monaghan County chairman, Michael McMahon, Brendan Casey, Eugene McGinnity and Raymond Trainer and he paid tribute to all who had taken part, and congratulated the winners, but ultimately he said the big winner was Monaghan County board and the county team.
