St. Colmcilles Report

St Colmcilles 2-10 : St Peters Dunboyne 5-20

Dunboyne matched the weather with a sizzling display to take the points in this B FL Division 1 game played in glorious conditions in Piltown.

The Cilles opened the scoring with a point from Shane Towey. Dunboyne followed with three points before a Lee Browne point reduced the deficit with a point. Another Dunboyne point restored their two point margin. A flowing attack from the Cilles saw Eoin O'Neill send in a ball from the right corner which was met by John McKenna for the first goal of the evening and the lead for the hosts.

The lead was short lived as Dunboyne reeled off four points followed by their first goal to take control of the game with a six point lead. Two points from Eoin O'Neill and another from Gary McCloskey briefly stemmed the Dunboyne onslaught. However a flurry of three goals and three points before half time saw the half time score of Cilles 1-05 : Dunboyne 4-11.

Unfortunately for the Cilles the second half followed a similar pattern. An early Dunboyne point was cancelled out by another point from Gary before another goal and two points from Dunboyne stretched out their lead. To their credit the Cilles kept plugging away with a point from Lee, two from Eoin O'Neil, another from John and a goal from Donal Meagher to complete their scoring while

Dunboyne added another six to their impressive total to finish the scoring. Final score Cilles 2-10 Dunboyne 5-20.

This was a difficult lesson for the Cilles who are still trying to find their feet in this division with every mistake being punished. The experienced Dunboyne side worked very hard throughout and their covering and closing down of men in possession was telling. The Cilles worked hard but were unable to match the strength of the visitors. There is no time to dwell on this result with another game next Monday away to Ratoath where hopefully some of the injured and exam people will be available for selection.

St. Colmcilles: C Duff, S Emmett, B Mullen, J O'Toole, E Woods, D Brodigan, E Sweeney, J Sweeney, L Browne (0-02), C Gordon, D Meagher(1-00), S Towey (0-01), G McCloskey (0-02), E O'Neill (0-04), J McKenna (1-01). Subs: L Hughes for O'Toole and N McElearney for Browne.
