Kiltale's Cathal McCabe

Kiltale 1-20 Na Fianna 2-13

Kiltale opened their league campaign with a hard-fought win against Na Fianna in Baconstown.

Kiltale started brightly with points from Jack Regan and Cathal McCabe. Na Fianna responded with points from Peter and Mark Slevin. Kiltale controlled the early play with a great supply of ball going into the full forward line. They created a lot of scoreable chances but couldn't convert several good goal opportunities.

The Kiltale backline were solid throughout with good displays from captain Philly Garvey, Sean Dunlevy and Ciaran Ennis. The half back line of Stephen Cummins, Padraig Kelly and Stephen Donoghue were solid under the aerial ball and ensured a good supply of ball into the threatening Kiltale forwards.

Na Fianna started the better in the second half and brought the sides level thanks to a well taken goal opportunity. The sides exchanged scores for the following 10-15 minutes until Kiltale began to pull away. The introduction of Paul Garvey proved crucial as he slotted over two well taken points from the 45m line to bring day light between the two sides. Na Fianna battled hard and pushed Kiltale all the way. Both sides will look for improvements over the next two weeks before the next league outings.
