Very talented forward line and he needs to start to get a consitent 6 forwards instead of choping and changing after every game as we will go no where if he does this.David Bray looks certain to be out anyway so he can be defo ruled out.Peader might be pushing for a place aswell.I am sorry to have to say this but it looks as though he will play Niall McKiege again as he was decent agianst Tipperary.And this means that Moyles could be dragged out the field again.I hope that they have learned something from that horror show in thurles,and i would like to see them kick the ball more sensebly into the forwards and around the field instead of doing about 50 hand passes to a lad right in front of him and then just hoofing the ball into the full-forward line hoping for the best.

Murphy has been injured, he was certainly on the bench but not togged out vs Westmeath. unfortunate as he had just come back into the panel. Very important game as a loss will leave us dicing with relegation.

what is with putting murphy back in goal, have i been at different games to some of ye, the goalkeeper position is not the problem, in fact lyons and o'rourke have saved us already in some league matches and o'byrne cup, notably lyons v westmeath and dublin, the defence, lack of movement for the ball from the forwards and obviously no what so ever is the cause of our troubles not the goalkeeper position

Murphy is better than O Rourke all day long. Would like to see Niall Mooney given more game time Saturday night. Otherwise whats the point of having him on the panel. If he doesnt get a game now hes hardly going to get a run in the summer. The worrying thing is we are looking likely to start the championship with virtually the same players who finished it last season. After all the trials and efforts made to find new talent we dont seem to have any.

I dont have anything against Paddy.I feel he would be more use out around the middle of the field,and he does not have the quality to be a good keeper.A big kick out is good but he needs more than that.If Murphy is available play him.

Why is everyone going mad about the goalkeeper position..! Goalkeepers contribute the least to a team's display.. fair enough they can make a match-winning save and provide good kickouts but come on its all over the field thats the problem..! This is a very talented panel of players.. we've some of the best forwards in the country.. why isn't anything clicking..? Is there trouble in the camp..?? Are players unhappy with the management..?? Because this Meath team are definately not this bad..

Good point Royal Class about the goalkeepers. It's our current style of play we need to change. This handpassing crossways and backwards is awful. Lets get back to the long kicking game we traditionally are known for. Get the ball away from our defence and give the forwards early ball.
But do we actually have a problem with playing the long ball game out of defence with the players we have at present? I've said before with the advent of handpassing that players now cannot kick the ball long distances. Apart from Kevin Reilly and Paddy o Rourke who can actually deliver a long kick pass out of the Meath defence? Look at our past teams O'Malley, Lyons, Harnan, O'Connell and Fay, Mark Reilly, McManus and GG (when he played in defence) all great kickers off the ball. At the moment I hate to see Kenny or McGuiness taking frees in our half back line cause it usually dosen't go 35~40 yards

Diego if you watch the old games involving those lads that you reckon were great foot-passers, the philosophy was kick it in the general direction of the forward and let him fight for it.
A lad would be murdered for doing it now.
It's not that the players can't kick a footpass, it's that they are being coached NOT to kick a footpass.
If you have a man in space on the opposite side of the field in the opposition half, the quickest way to get it to him is a long, diagonal footpass.
Lots of players are afraid to do it though and risk an interception.
So they'll take 5 handpasses to get over to him and by then the opportunity is gone.
Kerry, Cork and Tyrone aren't afraid to spray it around.
Likewise the Dubs and Kildare put on some exhibitions of foot passing last year.
Remember the Kildare goal against Tyrone?
One long accurate footpass from defense and Kildare were in on goal.
To play that way you need confident, well-coached players.
I don't think we have too many of either to be honest.

Coyler, Believe me I'm not an advocate of just lumping the ball up field for the sake of it. A early ball into space gives even a half decent forward a fair chance of getting it. Forwards are making moves but if the ball doesn't come early then they are waisting their time which is why I believe some of our forwards are just not bothering to make early runs anymore as they know the ball won't be delivered early. The best example is Stephen Bray in 2007, he was given early ball into space and look what he was able to do.
You have hit the nail on the head about the opposition cutting out the diagonal ball but IMO this is because players can't kick the ball and great distances. Any half decent footpasser of the ball should be able to put a ball into space to give his team mate a chance.
We do in fairness claim to have decent forwards in Meath and most of them probably are but if they don't get a decent supply of ball then they have no chance to get scores.

Heard something allright about Joe being a bit cheesed off that Brian wasn't togged out last sunday. Blood is thicker than water and frankly I don't blame him as Brian IMO is a better player than some of those togged out/playing last sunday in Tipp. EOB was talking about promotion but how can you achieve this if you haven't got your best players playing. Did EOB and the Meath management team underestimate Tipp last sunday?
From reading the local papers this week it looks like the local journalists have been questioning EOB on why Brian isn't getting any game time.

Just heard on LMFM that 'there is no word of the Meath team and it's unlikely if it will be announced at this stage'. Same every other week, amazes me that we seem to be one of the few counties who are incapable of publicly naming the team ahead of the games.

Hope Shane O Rourke plays on Saturday, i think we need to make wholesale changes and then get a bit of stability with a consistent team. Rumour has it that Brian Sheridan trained with the team this week and it is in fact Brian Farrell that has been dropped off the panel, can any one shed any light on this??? Surely something is wrong within the panel
