Brendan Murphy

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

He was in the dugout yesterday is there any info on when he will be back.I would give David Gallager a call up and have him as second choice keeper and David Lyons as 3rd choice and have Paddy O'Rourke on the panel as an out-field player.
1.Brendan Murphy
2.David Gallagher
3.David Lyons

Very ill-informed post.

O'Rourke is number one, Lyons is two. End of story. Brendan Murphy walked out on Meath last year citing commitment issues, the only reason he's back is because of an argument with Longford Town I believe. The last championship game he played, he conceded four goals and that is the only intercounty championship he's played in the last two and a half years! Couple all that with the fact that he is now rising 35 years of age. The fascination with Murphy has to end, O'Rourke is number one.

Any credibility the opening post had was then lost when it was suggested that the said O'Rourke be used as an out-field player. Where would you play him?

Loyal to the Royal - pulling the Limerick game out as a stick to beat Murphy with is a bit of a cheap shot. Anyone who was at that game, and I assume you were, knows that he and indeed the whole full back line was left totally exposed by a midfield and half-back line that was awol for the entire first half. That aside, the whole 'Murphy walked out on us' thing is getting a bit old. He made his decision and it didn't work out. He's back now so the moaning about him leaving is getting a bit tired. He is at least as good as O'Rourke, and most would say he is better. Paddy is still very young though of course. To say that there is 'a fascination with Murphy' is a nonsense, anyone making is case for him is doing so simply because they believe him to be the best keeper available to Eamonn O'Brien, whereas you seem to be writing him off because you've a problem with him going to Longford last year.
In any case, he's got a back injury so it remains to be seen when he will be back.

David Lyons did very well on saturday night, got the ball to the men who will catch it and gain advantage from the mark. He should be given a chance again next sunday v Tipperary.

I agree. Lyons is decent. If Benny is done, Benny's done but bothare a million miles better than O Rourke

Deadly serious. Mistakes in every championship game last year. Long kickouts arent enough for a keeper at inter county level. You need a lot more than that.

Paddy O'Rourke is young, and will make mistakes. I think you have to be looking at the bigger picture. Even if Brendan Murphy were available for selection, at 35 he is not going to be around for many more years,so therefore young O'Rourke and the likes are the future. They need encouragement, not negative criticism. How you can just state that he will never be the answer is baffling! What facts are they based on? Have you a crystal ball or something? However I will say one thing that he needs to continually play in goals at club level for Skryne, as you need to learn the position. As far as I know he has played the matches this season at corner forward.

People are very harsh on o rourke. Giving out about him isnt going to help. He is very young, very talented. Give the young lad a break.

Same again last night from O Rourke. Time for a change. Im not claiming to be an expert but you cant make mistakes in every game an senior inter county level. He is playing with the big boys now. If he needs to learn his trade he can do it with his club or at Under 21 level.

Wouldn't blame O'Rourke for the goal last night, when someone is running in on top of you like that no matter how tall you are they are going to jump up higher than you. O'Rourke didnt get much of a run at it while Sheehan had a 10 yard sprint in on top of it. Noone mentioning the save he pulled down in the second half that was going over the bar in which he hit his head off the crossbar I think? Also the save just after the goal that required quick feet from the snap shot. Also in relation to McKeigue, wonderful performance from him last night, Kingston has gone to Australian Rules trials and is touted as being one of the real deals in football, hardly got a sniff last night despite being a good 5 or 6 inches taller than Niall. Don't know where people thought Moyles was good last night, he got on a lot of ball but continuously kicked the ball away when he got it in the half backs and indeed was caught in possesion when taking the extra solo. Harrington was very loose and his marker was tricky, he needs to up his game. Kenny as usual was excellent, if only we had a few more with his heart. McGuinness was also loose and didn't seem fully fit but with a few weeks of training hopefully will improve. Midfield was poor, Crawford wasn't in the game at all and despite a few marks, Ward did little as well, Meade did well when introduced. In the forwards was very disappointed with Bray, what is up with him soloing sideways instead of bursting at his man and getting by him, it worked so well in 2007, he needs to recapture his form. Lewis was very good, 3 points from wing forward, not much more can be asked of the man. Cian Ward again needs to improve from play, tried a pot shot which went wide instead of taking his time and slotting it over. Shane O'Rourke showed well, scored 2 nice points and it's good to see him back. Hopefully he will stay fit and he can become a focal point in this attack come championship time. An honourable mention to Joe's spectacular sideline, didn't look too impressed being hauled off just after scoring it!! Brian is young lads, it was his first competitive game, to come into a game that was being played a fair place to try and make an impact is hard. Also he did appear to hurt his leg. Lovely score from Peadar as well. we desperately need to up the performance, Donegal beat Tipp barely so hopefully we can go up there and put in a real performance and begin to show some form!
