Meaths Strongest Possible 15 .....

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lads i know its been said over and over again , but what REALLY is our strongest 15 ?
This is including players who are not injured etc.

Mine would be :

1. Paddy O'Rourke
2. Donal Keogan
3. Brian Menton
4. Davy Dalton
5. Ciaran Lenehan
6. Kevin Reilly
7. Eoghan Harrington
8. Shane O'Rourke
9. Peadar Byrne
10. Paddy Gilsenan
11. Stephan Bray
12. Graham Reilly
13. Brian Farrell
14. Joe Sheridan
15. Mickey Newman

Firstly , I would have Menton at Fullback , he looks comfortable there and to be honest i think Kevin Reilly is more better out the field ......
The Halfback line is weak , and also im not too found of Dalton , I never thought that Caoimhin King did much wrong , and Gary O'Brien had frightening pace going forward , Even Shane McAnarney and Mickey Burke have more experience to be honest .....
Peadar at midfield solely on pace and engine , I would love Shane O'Rourke at midfield despite his injury , he was great there in 2011 , Bray , Graham Reilly and Paddy Gilsenan are fast paced , and do the job , theres plenty more for Half-forward , such as Eamon Wallace , Mark Collins , Damien Carroll , Cian Ward etc.
Full-Forward line was tough , its a very slow line , but keep Joe on top of keeper , hopefully Farrell can kick like 2012 and 2007 and Newman also playing in front of Joe .....

Now thats not even including Seamus Kenny , Tom Walsh , Donnacha Tobin , Brian Meade , Sean Curran , Stephen Crosby , David Bray .....
I Believe we have the players , but just not the belief and commitment other counties have , Example : Kildare have remained relatively unchanged team since we bet them 2-11 to 1-08 in 2007 , they bet us 5 times on the trot because they had commitment but most importantly a gameplan to execute .....
2007 is key to our future , we had belief , we beat top teams , Tyrone , Galway , Down , Kildare , narrowly lost to Dublin and walked Division 2 ......

Some of these are out of the country, injured or a bit young eg. Wallace and Sheridan, but this has the potential to be a very good team that we could possibly get some consistency out of as individuals and as an overall team if they were all available at the same time! I would have Gilsenan, Byrne, Burke, etc up there as well.

Paddy O'Rourke

Donal Keogan
Kevin Reilly
Davy Dalton

Ciaran Lenehan
Bryan Menton
Donnacha Tobin

Shane O'Rourke
Conor Sheridan

Eamonn Wallace
Damien Carroll
Graham Reilly

David Bray
Stephen Bray
Mickey Newman

I know the team lacks a gameplan , but think about it , if we had everyone emmigrated plus injured , we have a massively strong team .....
I also heard someone mention that mod is playing a more mobile fullforward in reilly , byrne etc.
Thus Cotradicting my point in Sheridan playing on top of the goalkeeper

Also ClassApart , good team alright , but its based on form , or possibly hope that players such as wallace and conor sheridan turn out good
I was also dissapointed to see Chris O'Connor go , always gave 100% i thought .....
Also agree with you with David Bray , i rated him on par nor better than his brother Stephen on certain days before he was injured , we need a left footed kicker also i think .....
Brian Farrell needs to tie his shooting boots , he was sensational last year .

Might i mention Newman is our top scorer this year with 21 points ?

Sorry Royalflyer but i didnt mention Conor Sheridan on my team , infact i was more inclined to have meade , byrne , gillespie , Kevin and Graham reilly and Menton ahead of him ....
Instead I mentioned let him grow over time like wallace and HOPE they become county starters .....

Have to agree with royalflier, it seems to me that certain people have just decided overnight that young Sheridan is going to be the next big thing, give him a chance for goodness sake! Personally, I believe Graham Reilly is best running at defences from deep and wouldn't be as effective in the full forward line. Also, the sooner Carroll returns the better, we don't have too many half forwards with his ability too link play.

Ok im going on the assumption that Shane O'Rourke is highly unlikely to play any football this year, and let's hope he gets to play again, also that mod will not bring back juicey or David Bray, as he dropped both from panel,
With that in mind
O'Rourke
Keoghan
Menton
Dalton
Lenehan
Reilly
Burke
Gillespie
Meade
Ford
Carroll
Reilly
Gilsenan
joe
Farrell

Subs Byrne, Collins, bray, larkin, curran., queeney., tobin., wallace, Sheridan, Lyons, Crosby
That in my view is the best we can field using subs as often as possible

Let them develop like Wallace? Wallace was playing minor football last year how can he be more developed than Sheridan who was a minor about 3 years ago?

1. Paddy
2. Keoghan
3. Menton/K.Reilly
4. D.Dalton or S.Curran
5. Leno (Would rather D.Tobin
6. Menton/K.Reilly
7. M.Burke
8. S.O'Rourke
9. P.Byrne
10. A.Forde
11. D.Carroll
12. Biggy
13. P.Gilsenan
14. Newman
15. Wallace

GK speaks for himself at the moment, massive kick-out and good shot-stopper!
Between K.Reilly and Mento we have 2 big units well able to hold FB and CHB. While in the corners and wings I went for speed and workrate. Each one of them can keep up with their men defend well and well able to support the attack!
Mid-Field is Meaths biggest problem so I went for Shane in hope he can produce some of the ability we all know he has. While Peadar is there for his workrate and we all seen last year he can take a score.
Between the 6 forwarrds I went for speed as well as scoring ability. Forde and Biggy can split open any defence with their speed! Carroll looks like a playmaker that can set up the scores for the men around them.
In the corners I went for lads that can win their own ball as well as score and with Newman in there they can also feed off him.
Newman could be our lethal weapon this year! He's big mobile and can score also good at the dead balls!

We will have to see what sort of recovery Seamus has made and if he still has what it takes at this level. He has given great service to his county down through the years and his presence in the panel will give the lads a boost. But he will have to prove himself again and you cant put him back on the team automatically after such a serious injury.

Sorry lads could have phrased the title better , I meant what could be Meaths strongest possible 15 despite injury and emigration .....
I actually forgot all about Seamus Kenny , he was so handy in around midfield , great to see him back though , will struggle to regain place this year .....
SOR was sensational for us in midfield , pity he could have solved half our midfield problems .....
Also i rate Chris O'Connor better than Davy Dalton after rethinking , I would have him cornerback anyday ....

On the Chris O'Connor subject, i was surprised at his dropping in the first place, but now that anyone I speak to from bracks area are singing his praises, many at the time of his dropping said if he played well he would be back in panel, surely his performance for club deserves a recall into panel in particular with the problems we having in half back line. Come on management this one is a no brainer IMO, get juicey back
