Terrible draw. What use is it for us to play Waterford in Navan. For sure we won't learn anything new. I was hoping that we could get Armagh in Navan as we would have to step up to the plate or forget about it for this year. I know that there is the opinion that we will get the team back winning with easy games but personally I disagree. If the lads had to play a quality team they might be more inclined to focus properly something that has been sadly lacking in this team for some time now.

Agreed. I was hoping for Monaghan myself as we left the league game earlier in the year behind us.
Although we should win fairly easily, Waterford have been improving in the last few years and hopefully the lads won't just see this as a training match and they just get the job done.

in fairness i know waterford are nt strong but this could be a good thing as it could lift confidence as stephan bray scoring like he used to but remember dont take them as a joke remember what happened when we did that to limerick!!
but ye i would of liked a harder draw! but as i said this could help confidence and sort out the positioning problems like CHB,WFs and FF

I stand to be corrected bur I believe that Waterford have the best defence in the country this year(least scores conceded). Now i am not saying Meath will lose but lets hope they are not thinking about the next alreay round or we could have some sort of a game in Navan

what good can come of this game?, seriously! I think somebody asked the question about the prices that will be charged...they should be paying us if we decide to come out and watch that...this is CHAMPIONSHIP, and yet i dont feel excited this is the first time in my life i've actually said to myself "i'm really not bothered". Lets look at the possible outcomes of this game....number 1. we hammer them- no good because we learn nothing...number 2. we get run close- absolute disaster the lads and the manager will be slated for weeks. number 3. we lose- most definitely will be the worst day of a lots of meath supporters' lives. Yea I agree Royal son. Let's get the confidence back in the side and try sorting out CHB and Full Forward positions. I would rather have a banker win to instill confidence for a harder day next time, than a harder test and possible early exit from the Championship, which would make the rest of this year very long indeed.

Agree completely. We're not going to learn anything whatsoever by playing a poor division four team in Navan. It would be far more beneficial to come up against a tougher team and then we would know where we stand.

Meath can only beat what is put in front of them. If we are good enough, there will be lots of opportunities in the next four weeks to get an accurate measurement of where we are at.

Lets get Waterford out of the way first. A game against a poor team might be what is required, get a bit of confidence back and maybe give one or two lads a chance who might not normally get a chance. Remember back in 2007, we beat a very poor Down outfit in the first round and we went on to reach a semi-final. And as I read on here already, it should give Bray and Farrell an extra week (provided we get over Waterford).

Waterford fans dont turn up for their home matches so dont expect to see more than 10 there, and I'm bringing half of them. Have some good friends from Tramore who want to watch it with me...they're already winding me up saying its Limerick part 2

i fear that coylers elbow could be right about king staying full forward, we should get away with it for waterford but we wont against any of the better teams. but we should be using this game to get the forwards scoring and get the confidence up.

Can see the points of both sides of the argument, a win to raise confidence but will it just paper over the cracks? In my opinion, EOB should put out hi best possible team, (hopefully) have the game wrapped up with 15, 20 minutes to go and then he can start experimenting, but we cannot take Waterford for granted, emember Limerick?!

well hopefully we'll have four weeks of matches ahead so playing some of the developing players such as queeney and david bray mightn't be a bad idea either, at least decisions like that can be justified. i certainly think that playing queeney in full forward would be better than playin king up there anyway, hard to know whats going on in eobs head tho.
