Moynalvey take underage crowns

Underage football in Moynalvey is on the up after they took U12 and U14 titles in the same week. Moynalvey 4.09 Na Fianna 0-08 Moynalvey captured the Div. 3 South U12 league on Friday evening with a well deserved victory over a gallant Na Fianna team. Moynalvey started well and eased into an early four point lead after a point from David McLoughlin and a goal from Cillian O' Sullivan. However Na Fianna battled back into the game and it took some fine defending from Brian Harnan and John Hegarty along with some excellent goalkeeping from David Curran to restrict them to 5 points at half time. While Moynalvey finished the half strongly with a point from Darragh Branigan and a magnificent 1-5 from O' Sullivan leaving Moynalvey leading at half time on a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-5. Na Fianna again fought hard in the second half, but with Eamon Walsh and captain Padraic Harnan beginning to dominate the midfield area and strong defending by Jack Lawless, Chris O' Malley and Fearghal McCabe they found it hard to get scores. While at the other end a third goal from O' Sullivan and along with a fourth from Eric Ryan added to a point from John-Francis Martin rounded off the scoring for Moynalvey. It was a great team performance which allowed Moynalvey triumph in a very sporting game. In a very sporting game Moynalvey reversed an earlier group stage defeat by Syddan to capture the title. Points from Cillian O' Sullivan, Padraic Harnan, Tony Forde and Anthony Forde along with a goal from O' Sullivan gave Moynalvey a half time lead of 1-7 to 0-1. Syddan started the second half strongly but found it very hard to break down the Moynalvey rearguard that was magnificent to a man. Moynalvey's midfield pairing of William Harnan and Darren Brennan were starting to take control of this area and with the forwards continuing where they left of in the first half adding a further 1-4 to there halftime score Moynalvey cruised to victroy. The trophy was presented to Moynalvey captain Tiernan Mahady.
