Meath claim Leinster MFL

Despite Dublin's single point victory at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday, it was Meath that carried off the Seamus Heaney Cup having topped their group of the Leinster Minor Football League on score difference. Leinster Minor Football League 2006 Round 3 - Saturday, 11th March 2006 Dublin 1-7 Meath 0-9 It was very much a game of two halves with Dublin very much on top in the first half and Meath in the second half. Indeed Dublin should have had a much greater lead at the half, but only led 0-4 to 0-1. Meath's solitary point only came in the 27th minute scored by Ciaran Lynch. Meath's substitutions just before the break had a telling effect. Dublin were first to score after the break with a point from a 45. Substitute, Shane O'Rourke pulled one back for Meath, but Dublin replied with a point from a free. Points from Paddy Brady and Stephen Kiernan reduced the gap to just 2 points between the sides. A slip up in the Meath defence allowed Dublin find the Meath net to give Dublin their biggest lead of the game. But then Meath scored 5 unanswered points and had many other scoring chances that should have given them the lead. In one of the few Dublin attacks in the second half, Dublin converted an injury time free to claim victory on the day. Afterwards Leinster Council representative, Paddy Kelly, presented the Seamus Heaney Cup to Meath's captain, Paddy Brady for winning the Leinster Minor Football League.
