Meath put up a good performance to capture the Sean Neary Cup by defeating Laois in the final of the Ballinabrackey U-16 FT played at Castlejordan on Sunday evening. Meath 2-14 Laois 1-6 Gavin Coyle opened the scoring with a point and this was quickly followed by a Graham Reilly point from a free. Laois pulled one back with a fine point from a 45. Indeed Laois were to register only one other point in the half, and again a terrific point from a 45. The sides were 0-5 to 0-3 at this stage and Meath went on to score five more points before the half. Graham Reilly got six of Meath's points, with the remaining points from Gavin Coyle, Kenneth Darby, Paul Kelly and Aaron Newman in the half. H/T: Meath 0-10 Laois 0-2 On the re-start John Broderick extended Meath's lead with a point. Laois then looked like they were going to make a comeback with their goal, but Meath replied quickly with a goal from substitute, Stephen Dervan. Points from Aaron Newman and David Morgan added to Meath's lead before Laois pulled back three points (two from frees). Kenneth Darby got both of Meath's final scores with a point and a goal to give Meath a deserved victory on the night. Those present were treated to very good football from both sides in an entertaining and hard fought game.
