St. Colmcilles end Rathkenny's unbeaten run

St. Colmcille's ended Rathkenny's unbeaten run with a fine display at Seneschalstown on Tuesday night. Rathkenny had no answer to a team that outfought and outplayed them in every sector of the field. St. Colmcille's 2-13 Rathkenny 0-07 St. Colmcille's played quick ball into their nippy two man full forward line time and time again. Within three minutes they had three points on the board. Rathkenny replied on five minutes with a great Emmett Martin effort. Peadar Farrelly scored from a '45 on 9 minutes to leave just two points in it. Rathkenny could only add two further scores from Martin and Farrelly in the half, whilst St. Colmcille's added a further 1-06. The goal coming in the 12th minute. The half ended on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-04. The second half started with both defences on top. It remained scoreless until the 44th minute when St. Colmcille's pointed. Peader Farrelly replied with a point for Rathkenny on 47 minutes. Rathkenny added further points from Donal Curtis and John McBride. The game was long over as a contest when St. Colmcille's added a further goal on 55 minutes. Rathkenny will need to improve greatly if they are to advance to the quarterfinal stages. Best for Rathkenny were Derek Smith, Donal Curtis and Peadar Farrelly.
