JFC: Dunboyne overcome Skryne

August 15, 2017

Dunboyne's Gerry Gallagher

Dunboyne 3-13 Skryne 1-13

This Junior Football Championship match played in the excellent facilities in Kilbride was a 'dead rubber' as far as Skryne were concerned. But Dunboyne needed to win to keep their unbeaten run going and ensure their qualification for the knockout stages.

This Skryne team with nothing to lose certainly gave as good as they got and almost upset all the odds against a fancied Dunboyne fifteen who knew they were in a game and were glad to get the win they needed. Indeed if Skryne had taken some of their goal chances the Dunboyne men would certainly have been in serious trouble. Dunboyne goalkeeper Niall Carolan made three excellent saves including a well taken penalty from Skryne's top marksman Allan Carty. Two other goal chances were agonisingly put just over the bar.

As well as their goalkeeper, Gerry Gallagher was Dunboyne's match winner and he caused the Skryne defence problems all through the game and was involved in all of their three first half goals. But this did not deter the Blues and they battled back to be just two points behind at the break - 3-5 to 1-9.

The Dublin border side probably had the better of the second half as they outscored Skryne by eight points to four. Having said that they were delighted to get away from Kilbride with the points after an excellent team display from the Skryne men. All 20 Skryne players used can be justifiably satisfied with their own performance.
