The St. Vincents Curraha Under 17 squad celebrate at Dunganny

St Vincents Curraha 3-9 Killary Emmetts 0-12

St Vincents Curraha completed a fantastic league campaign by claiming the under 17 division 3 league title with a six-point win over Killary Emmetts on Sunday.

However, the winners didn't have it all their own way and looked second best to their north Meath rivals for much of the opening half. The windy Dunganny conditions played a part as both sides struggled to score against it. St Vincents Curraha opting to play against it first struggled to get into the game. All they could muster was a meagre three points in the opening thirty minutes. Leo Corry, Nigel Hand and Jack O Connor all on target. Killary Emmetts with the wind at their backs seem to play with more freedom and raced into a 0-8 to 0-3 half-time lead. In fairness to Vincents Curraha they did create a few great goal chances but failed agonisingly each time to register one.

The half time break seemed to rejuvenate the winners and they delivered three second half goals which were to prove decisive. With the elements in their favour they created numerous scoring chances. One of those early chances fell to captain Niall McLarnon and he duly found the net from close range. Killary Emmetts added a point to keep the margin at three in their favour. However, the comeback was on moments later at the other end when Diarmuid Moriarty, Leo Corry and a hard working Conor Harford all pointed. Killary Emmetts responded with a point but Moriarty cancelled this out moments later with his second point. The winners were now finding their rhythm and Nigy Hand levelled proceedings with a well taken point. He followed up with a goal to put the winners three points clear with ten minutes to go. Killary Emmetts didn't give up and brought the margin down to two again moments later. Indeed, they threaten the Vincents Curraha goal on several occasions late on in search of a winner. Vincents Curraha weather the storm with full back David Corry playing well and averting any danger.  His brother Eoghan was to hit the decisive score with about three minutes to go, when he found the net from close in. Jack O Connor added a point to complete a six-point victory.

St Vincents Curraha had excellent performers in defenders David Corry, Oisin Fay and Danny Tuite while at midfield Conor Harford was to the fore. Up front Nigy Hand, Jack O Connor  Diarmuid Moriarty and Niall McLarnon did really well.
