U17 Div 3 FL Final: Goals end Killary's hopes

Last minute advice for Killary Emmets before the start of the U17 Division 3 final at Dunganny

ST VINCENT'S/CURRAHA 3-9 KILLARY EMMETS 0-12

A GOAL shortly after half-time and another two in the final quarter put paid to Killary Emmets hopes in this U-17 FL final at Dunganny last Sunday.

The strong breeze was a significant factor throughout but Killary failed to make the most of it when wind assisted in the opening half. They did manage to lead 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time but St Vincent's/Curraha showed enough promise to suggest that the lead wouldn't be sufficient to see Killary over the winning line.

Indeed but for the efforts of Jodi Donoghue between the posts for the Syddan/Castletown combination St Vincent's/Curraha would have snatched at least two goals in that opening half.

Points from Killian Price (two), Ben Blakemore, Evan Carry and John McMahon had Killary 0-5 to 0-1 clear by the 19th minute.

That lead stretched to six points at one stage before St Vincent's/Curraha notched the final score of the half.

Evan Carry hit the opening score of the second half from a free before the eventual winners struck for their opening goal on 34 minutes.

St Vincent's/Curraha were level by the 41st minute and they went ahead for the first time a minute later.

Killary hit back with an equaliser from Evan Hoey but St Vincent's/Curraha took control of matters after that scoring a quick point and then a goal.

Killian Price and Evan Carry (free) responded with points to leave just two between the teams with eight minutes remaining.

A third goal on 53 minutes sealed it for St Vincent's/Curraha and they added a further point before the end for a deserved win.
