Trim's Damien McGee.

Trim made it two wins from three Ted Murtagh SHC Group A starts at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday when hitting Longwood for seven goals.

Trim ............... 7-14
Longwood ...... 1-10

Trim underlined their superiority in the second-half when registering 5-7 against the wind outscoring Longwood by 13 points in that time to record their second win.

Longwood hopes of scoring their first win of the campaign were undermined by the absence of county man Damien Healy, who is in the USA.

Longwood drew with Killyon in the opening round before running Kilmessan to five points second time out.

Trim brought a nine-point lead into the second-half and erased any hope of a shock result with two more goals within 10 minutes of the restart.

Neil Heffernan notched the third which was eclipsed by Mikey Cullen's brilliant solo goal. That left it 4-9 to 0-5.

The men in red continued to boss matters. Peter Farrell notched their fifth goal when batting to the net midway through the half.

When the same player pointed moments later, the board read 5-13 to 0-7. The scoring rate slackened in the latter stages.

Trim's goal tally was completed by subs Colm McGrath and Ciaran Joyce after Karl Ennis netted for Longwood in the 50th minute. Heffernan was denied his hat-trick by a smart Mick Healy save with just over three minutes left.

The sun was shining and the breeze blowing into the town end when the second match on the card started. James Toher (free) cancelled out Ryan Moore's opener for Longwood.

Goals in the fifth and 11th minutes gave Trim an early foothold. Neil Heffernan bagged the first from close range. He turned provider for the second with Damien McGee finishing to the net. That left it 2-1 to 0-2.

Trim gradually increased their lead, outscoring Longwood by 0-5 to 0-2 over the next 15 minutes. They might have gone further ahead but for registering eight wides by the 25th minute.

Trim closed out the half with three unanswered points with Toher posting twice and Alan Douglas completing the scoring. It was 2-7 to 0-4 at the break.

Longwood face Navan O'Mahonys in round four with the outcome set to have a bearing on which side faces the relegation play-off.

The importance of this win to Trim is borne out by the fact that while they sit in second place, just one point separates the top four in this group. They face one of those teams, Killyon, next time out.
