FL Div 3: Best display of the year from Syddan

Syddan's Ian Curran

SYDDAN 0-18 CURRAHA 1-12

SYDDAN had to produce their best display of the year to become outright leaders of division 3 in this crucial clash at Curraha.

The game was played at championship pace throughout in what was a closely contested and hard fought affair.

Niall Moriarty pointed Curraha ahead in the opening minute before Syddan hit a trio of points from Cormac and Daire Rowe, and Ian Curran.

Syddan led by three point on two different occasions but a Conor Moriarty goal put the hosts ahead and they opened up a 1-6 to 0-6 lead by the 20th minute.

However Syddan finished the half strongly and boosted by a brace of points from Ian Curran and one each from Gary Farrelly and Daire Rowe the sides were level 0-10 to 1-7 at the break.

Further points from Cormac Rowe and Curran edged Syddan ahead and they never relinquished the lead after that.

That advantage should have been greater but Syddan squandered a number of chances while Daire Rowe was denied a goal by a fine save from keeper Liam Hogan.

Curran, who ended with a personal tally of eight points, kept the scoreboard ticking over for Syddan and the lead eventually stretched to five entering the closing stages.

David Toner (free) and Conor Moriarty ('45) had points for Curraha late on but Syddan held out to maintain their promotion push.
