Senior Camogie: Dunboyne pushed all the way

Kate O'Carroll gains possession for Dunboyne as Lisa Foley Killyon gives chase.

Dunboyne 3-14 Killyon 3-08

Dunboyne travelled to Killyon for round 3 of the Senior Camogie Championship on Tuesday night. With both teams having key players coming back down to earth after a historic win and promotion to Division One camogie over the weekend, neither team were going to come away from this match with an easy 2 championship points.

The first half saw Dunboyne settle earliest, with a point from play from corner forward Kate O'Carroll. Some great team work was shown throughout the match particularly within the Dunboyne forward lines with nearly all the forwards registering on the scoreboard. Caoimhe Curran put the away side into a comfortable lead with an early first half goal. However, in typical Killyon style, they showed whatever Dunboyne could do they could do better and worked the ball back up the field to Katie Mullen who registered a goal for Killyon, their first score of the match, and one of the few they got from play. Despite Killyon being back in contention on the scoreboard, Dunboyne kept their cool, and a blitz of points from the Dunboyne side saw the Killyon full back line momentarily fall apart, allowing Trisha Creamer to the strike the back of the net to register a goal, her first of 2 for the night.

Half Time Dunboyne 3-09 Killyon 1-05

Dunboyne only scored 5 points in the second half testament to the fighting spirit of Killyon. This score line doesn't reflect a dip in performance by Dunboyne however, but more the battles that went on, especially around the middle of the park, with neither team willing to concede possession. Killyon took advantage of the smallest opportunities, registering 2 well needed goals in the second half and the free taking prowess of Grace Coleman meant Dunboyne never fully got out of sight. However, a solid performance by the Dunboyne back lines saw some other goal opportunities which could have resulted in a different outcome to this game, stopped and cleared, allowing them to maintain their lead and leave Killyon with the all-important two championship points.

Best for Dunboyne were O'Carroll and Hackett. Best for Killoyn was G. Coleman
