MFL Div 4: Final date for Killary Emmets

May 03, 2016

Paul Bellew - Killary Emmets

KILLARY EMMETS 2-8 GAEIL COLMCILLE 1-6

PAUL BELLEW struck for both goals as Killary Emmets set up a MFL division 4 final date with Clann na nGael at Castletown.

The Syddan/Castletown combination had the advantage of the breeze in the opening half but started slowly and it was the Kells lads who led 0-3 to 0-0 after seven minutes.

Mark Kelly got Killary off the mark with their only score of the opening quarter. However they went ahead when Bellew got on the end of a Cathal Dardis delivery and found the net on 17 minutes.

Gaeil Colmcille hit back with a point and then netted from the penalty spot on 27 minutes.

They eventually led 1-4 to 1-3 after Christopher Deans and Eoin Lynch Duff had vital points for Killary late in the half.

The visitors also started strongly in the second half but they managed four wides before going two points clear on 36 minutes.

A minute later Killary got a fortunate break when a Kelly pointed effort came off a post and Bellew pounced to bury the ball in the net.

That left it 2-3 to 1-5 and Kelly stretched the lead from a free after earlier being denied a goal by a fine block from the Kells keeper.

Kells looked dangerous on the break at times but Shane Clare stood firm in the Killary goals.

There was only the minimum between the sides heading into the final quarter but it was Killary who finished the stronger with unanswered points from Kelly (three) and Bellew to book a final spot.
