The Seneschalstown squad before the Feile final at Dunganny

Meath Féile 2016 Group B

Seneschalstown U-14's travelled to Dunboyne on Saturday afternoon last to start their Féile journey for 2016 and as defending champions it was going to be a tall order to live up to the exploits of the 2015 team.

Our first game was against Simonstown and we got the perfect start with a goal from Will Finegan and a point from Kit Waddington this gave us a great platform against a strong wind and with players winning their individual battles all over the pitch we pushed on to lead 3-03 to 1-05 at half time.

The lads pushed on in the second half and with Dara Walsh, Liam Maguire and Ben Coffey leading from the half back line with Donal Commons and Woodley Nicholson dominating proceedings in midfield ably assisted by Seanie Dalton as usual covering every blade of grass the ball supply to forwards like Owen Mullen, Ben Kearney Jack Frayne, Oisín McEvoy and Aaron Traynor paid dividends with everyone getting in on the scoring.

With Cathal Darby rock steady in goal and his back line of Cillian Lawlor, Tom Smith, Jack McAuley, Zach Sheridan and Conor Mc Donnell the tackling and teamwork really showed and we eventually ran out winners by 6-08 to 2-05.

Next up was the home team Dunboyne who with bigger stronger players were always going to be a big task for our lads but once again the teamwork, support play and will to win really showed from the start with every player really on top of their game again we went in at half time leading 2-0 to 0-03.

The second half started with a good goal from Dunboyne and really put it up to the Seneschalstown lads to have to fight for every ball but again with some great scores most notable a goal from Dara Walsh from half back and with the younger players Cathal Darby, Conor McDonnell, Owen Macken, Zach Sheridan, Tom Smith, Jack McAuley, Jack Freyne and Oisín McEvoy Ben Kearney and Owen Mullen dominating we went on to win 6-05 to 2-04.

Two great wins against two very strong teams saw us straight through to the semi-finals on Sunday morning but unfortunately it was at a very big cost as Woodley Nicholson broke his finger at the end of the first game against Simonstown but this lad is made of tough stuff and still played in the second game but unfortunately missed the remainder of the tournament.

The semi-final was listed for Dunganny on Sunday morning with Rathkenny who had won their division also the opposition, and again the lads started off where they left off the previous day and again just didn't allow Rathkenny any opportunity to get into the game and showed great hunger to win every ball and led 2-02 to 0-02 at half time.

The second half was more of the same and again we eventually ran out winners 4-04 to 1-02.

Next up was Navan O'Mahony's in the final and we almost got off to the perfect start with two great goal efforts from Will Finnegan after a few minutes but we just didn't get the luck and O'Mahony's went down the field and scored two goals of their own to put us on the back foot and  again although every player put their heart and soul into this game the bounce of the ball just never went our way and we were always chasing a bigger stronger and  well organised O'Mahony's team who went on to win deservedly.

Although we didn't win and all these lads were devastated afterwards everyone in the club is very proud of their achievements this weekend, after all "winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is",

The Seneschalstown panel for the weekend was:  Cathal Darby, Aaron Traynor, Ben Coffey, Ben Kearney, Cian Rooney, Cillian Lawlor, Conor McDonnell, Daire Walsh, Donal Commons, Eoin Macken, Jack Freyne, Jack McAuley, Kit Waddington, Liam Maguire, Oisín McEvoy, Owen Mullen, Seanie Dalton, Tom Smyth, Will Finnegan, Woodley Nicholson and Zac Sheridan.
