FL Div 3: Disappointing start for Syddan

February 08, 2016

Syddan's Daire Rowe

Dunderry 1-10 Syddan 1-7

IT proved a disappointing start to the league campaign for Syddan at Ludlow Park on Sunday morning.

The conditions made it difficult for the teams, both of whom hold genuine promotion aspirations. Syddan played with the advantage of the stiff breeze in the opening half and held a precarious 0-5 to 0-4 lead at the break.

They doubled that advantage at the start of the second half but then conceded a soft goal that proved the difference between the sides at the finish.

The second half was just four minutes old when Stephen Coogan miscued a 35 metre free but it went off the fingertips of a number of defenders before nestling in the back of the Syddan net.

That gave Dunderry the lead for the first time but Daire Rowe hit back with the equalising point. Coogan converted another brace of frees before Daire Rowe regained the lead for the hosts with a 43rd minute goal.

Syddan failed to score again after that and the visitors finished much the stronger with four unanswered points from Jack Brady, Coogan (two) and Paddy Kennelly.

Coogan top-scored for Dunderry with 1-6, all from placed balls.

Six of Syddan's points came from Daire Rowe frees, brother Cormac accounted for the only one from play.
